What is good hair and what is bad hair?

You'll know you have good hair by the amount of work and concern you put in as a correlary inverse to the amount of compliments you receive.

I have naturally wavy hair that gets super frizzy whenever it's humid, but 30 min is the maximum I spend on it. I use mainly drugstore products: Frizz Ease Touch-up Creme, Marc Anthony Blow Dry Anti-Frizz Blowout Spray or the WOW Dream Coat Spray and a hair spray like Garnier Fructis Style Sleek and Shine Anti-Humidity Hairspray.

And if I'm in a big hurry I do a messy bun but use the same hair spray so it's more casual than truly messy.

I used to do flat iron beach waves sometimes but now I think being overly perfect just makes you look like a MAGA barbie so I stopped. If anything, this keeps me from spending too much time on my hair.

I have really thick hair with lots of volume. I get compliments frequently even when I've done nothing. My sister OTOH has very thin hair, flaky scalp, etc. I see how much effort and time it takes her to deal with that, while I'm a wash and go type. Quick blowdry + flat iron if something fancy. It's completely the genetic roulette, nothing different she or I did in childhood or as adults. She got the good skin though, whereas mine freckles, breaks out easily, and needs a lot more care. So it balances out I guess.

LOL Maga Barbie, PP, that's so true I also stopped doing the waves. But I don't have ginormous puffed lips or spider eyelashes either.

This OP!
I love your title and bet you have a great sense of humor.
I can just brush my hair and give it a bit of a wax/hairspray for smoothness and I'm good to go.

I spend tons of time having anxiety about exercise, schedules, work, when to shop for everything from groceries to boy sneakers to girl sports bras. Making appointments for everyone, cooking healthy meals, meal planning, early christmas planning, you name it. I'm making up the time being a pointless worrywart.

My mother has had perfect hair as long as I've known her. She doesn't have to do a thing to it, she has soft flowy curls that never frizz and always look perfect.

She spends the time she gains from this making anyone within a 20 foot radius utterly miserable. With a different focus she probably could have cured cancer, but I think she's happier being miserable and making everyone in her life miserable.

My hair is the universe's attempt to even out for the horrible skin and asymmetric body it gave me.

We all have something.

This is what Drybar is for.

I have an event tonight, so my whole day is planned around how to best optimize good hair for the event. This includes a strategically timed shower, so hair looks clean but isn't too soft. Blow drying in sections. Curling iron so it has some movement, but not a "real housewives" look. Maybe a flt iron for frizz. Some hairspray, but not stiff. And allowing myself time to redo the whole thing before the event if it all goes sideways. So basically, my whole day is spent thinking about/dealing with my hair!

I just wonder what it's like to be one of those people whose natural hair is flattering with minimal intervention - maybe a quick blow-dry or whatever, and you're good for the day (or two, or three!). Do you have curly hair, or a great cut that falls into place? Do you say a gratitude prayer every morning when you wake up and look in the mirror?

And before anyone gives me advice, I have tried every haircut and style over 30 years - long, short, curly, flat. There is no "naturally" easy style for me. I am resigned to ponytail/bun most of the time, and then sacrificing days of my life when necessary for important occasions.

What blow out cream or styling product do you use? I miss silicones.

It doesn't look as good as it used to but it's not a huge difference and I doubt that many people she interacts with notice or care. She is happy to have all of the time and money that she used to spend on it.

If you're not quite ready for that step and your hair is high maintenance because it's neither curly nor straight like hers is, she did do Japanese/Brazilian hair straightening every few months for a while - that lasts a long time and lessens time blowing it out.

Exactly!

I am sure your hair already looks good. IIWY I would be good with my nice but perhaps not perfect looking hair.

I have really, really bad hair so I wear a wig in a natural, but flattering style.

It’s cut my getting ready for fancy events time down considerably. Good wigs aren’t cheap, but when you add up all the products, devices, hair cuts, etc, I think it’s actually cheaper to get a new wig every 6 months.

There are a bunch of shops on Georgia you can go to try some on and see what you like.

For a fancy event just get it professionally done and stop the anxiety doom spiral. Seriously—life is too short.

+1. I spent hours on hair and makeup in my teens and maybe even my 20s. My 30s are a blur with having babies and toddlers. I spend 10 min max getting ready for anything now and rarely wear any make up. I would for a wedding or special event and can have hair and makeup done in still under 10 minutes.

I just don't care what anyone thinks. I am almost 50 and feel great.

I have great hair but I work two jobs and volunteer a lot so I don’t have time for fancy events to show it off. I do get lots of compliments though.
