Why block snap benefits?

Trump literally appealed to the SCOTUS not to pay SNAP as the courts ordered. The Heritage Foundation wants to end SNAP, WIC, and other assistance programs.

None of this makes sense to me.

This doesn’t make sense because our government has reached a severe point of dysfunction. If this was a parliamentary system they would be calling a new election right now. It’s really bad.

We're 38 Trillion in national debt, which is about $110K per person in tne country. The US dollar is being challenged as the world's reserve currency and just the interest on the national debt is more than the defense budget.

Call for a new election, but what are your POLICY solutions? And they better make fiscal sense, because the math in a global economy hasn't worked for several decades.

Cut military spending and raise taxes on the top wealth class. This country doesn’t need billionaires and definitely no trillionaires!!

SNAP gets funded by Democrats voting to open the government. It’s so simple.

Pretty amazing that the GOP's permanent "mandate" didn't even last 10 months (not really). They're getting blown out in every election in 2025 and not sure what they plan to run on next year. Going to the SCOTUS to block SNAP? Refusing to help people with exorbitant health care insurance? Driving up grocery and energy costs? Protecting Trump's pedophilia? Great message they have...

You had me until “pedophilia.” That is a fringe left rallying cry that doesn’t resonate with normal people.

Johnson is keeping the House closed for solely this reason. Otherwise, they'd all be saying they're all there working on behalf of America even if the Democrats weren't. His keeping the House shut down is embarrassingly transparent and unprecedented.

Sorry there was a court ruling that SNAP obligations need to be met like in previous shutdowns.

The GOP has the votes to do it themselves. They just need 51 if they'd get rid of the filibuster.

Oh yes. Online comments are full of people saying "get a job!"

Average wage of a Walmart employee is $29k. SNAP requires households to be under 130% of poverty. Poverty line for 2 persons is around $28k. For 3 persons it's $35K.

Use the contingency now. These benefits are needed by families immediately.

So you're telling the wealthy to offshore themselves in a global economy? That's your message?

What's your plan when airplanes fly into buildings? Plus up the balances on EBT cards?

Over half of that increase was caused by Trump and Bush. Stop gaslighting people.

Minority view

Among SNAP recipients? Are you sure?

abbreviated article--no paywall, just the short version. Seems to be more of a general blame politics, not specific party.
Although I didn't know Johnson's district has one of the highest SNAP usage rates in the country.

:roll yourself.

Taxes have been raised in the past without catastrophic consequences. Republicans keep lowering taxes and arguing any increase is catastrophic. You all are going to argue this no matter how low taxes go. Plus there are ways to disincentivize offshoring, if only Republicans would vote for them.

Only so the appeals court can issue a more fulsome opinion backed by legal reasoning.

Unlike the conservative judges, Jackson did the right things, and chose not to issue a dubious decision using the shadow docket.
