I'm confused by what you mean by "feeder school". If you're truly at a feeder in the broad sense of the word (i.e. a top high school that performs extremely well across the board with elite colleges) then a 3.8 is undoubtedly a decent GPA and schools like Michigan will admit this kid.

Feeder school: sends at least 15% to ivy; or 25%+ to T20+T10lac; or 40%+ to T30.

Is your college counseling office not helping you in-depth with this? My kid goes to a top private in NYC, and they have been an amazing resource. Insist on getting better advice from them if you feel you have to ask this question here.

OP yup about this. We’re in NYC. Kid is a junior and we don’t get access to naviance til next semester. I guess they don’t want people focused on this too early? Not sure. Maybe that’s normal.

My 3.83 unweighted humanities kid from feeder private HS at Northwestern.

3.8s do well from our private if you have very good LORs. low 3.7s is where it gets tough

It's all about your HS. Don't extrapolate from someone else's.

Yes normal. NYC schools typically have the first parent counselor meeting in the Spring junior year. It may take several meetings to collect the information you needed. At ours you can only look at it at the counselor's office. Can't take picture or notes.

General guide for feeder private high schools:

There’s a bit of private HS reputational variation, but here’s the general overview:
3.9+ = competitive for T10+
3.8+ = competitive for T11-20/25+
3.7+ = competitive for T25/30+

this was same at our nyc feeder - maybe same one. I looked at the harvard Westlake website for some similar stats. Also IMO, your kid will get a great read from the current seniors about how things shake out. if you're looking to tour now, just tour based on vibe. big/small/etc

Private feeder boy, humanities with awards?
I'd look at Brown. Figure out your competition inside the school first. That's super important.

It varies from school to school.
At ours:
3.9+ = competitive for T5
3.8+ = competitive for T10
3.7+ = competitive for T25
