I think this is more a situation where it's a good supplemental recommendation letter, and the writer happens to be an alum (which can't hurt). This shouldn't supplant the two core teach recs, but does seem like a great supplemental recommendation. |
| Stanford specifically discourages alumni from submitting recommendations—I’ve talked to them as an alum about this precise issue. If you get a recommendation from an alum who also happens to be your teacher, coach, minister, or employer, great. But otherwise, it’s not recommended. |
