How to stop sleeping with one ear open?

Same PP as above - to the person with the alarm system suggestion, agree! That also helped me!

I got an alarm system mostly because I was sleeping with one ear open in case of break-ins. I know that sounds ridiculous to some people, but I couldn't help ti and it was affecting my sleep. The alarm gives me peace of mind that if it were to happen, I wouldn't miss it and now I sleep like a baby.

That said, maybe if you set an alarm, you'll know that you don't have to worry about anyone else coming in because he'll know the code.

That was going to be my suggestion too. I have somewhat irrational fears about someone breaking in and the alarm system helps me feel comfortable when I hear random noises at night.

Can he sleep somewhere else on those nights?

Can you do anything to make the doors quieter? Is it an alarm system that is the problem? Sometimes I cover the speaker on our alarm box at night so the "door open" voice is not so loud if someone is coming home late. Try putting the white noise machine closer to the door instead of in your room - that might muffle the sound in a different way. Can your DH come in a different door when he's coming home late at night?

You need to sleep in another room away from the doors.

Have you ever tried a weighted blanket?

You also could try meditation. Listen to the calm app to learn a few but I find it makes me alert to have my phone near the bed so just try to meditate on my own if I'm awake when I want to be sleeping.

The problem is that things that knock you out don't give you a recovering sleep.

Have you had / do you remember having a baby? When your brain is listening for something, it can detect extremely quiet sounds.

You have to make your subconscious not care about the arrival, or move into a extremely soundproofed room.

+1 If my DH is coming in after 2 am he sleeps in the basement since I’ll never fall back asleep.
