Shutdown Day 29

My prediction is that it resolves once the increased ACA premiums go into effect and the Democrats feel that they have made their point.

So January?

He has been saying that since the shutdown began.

The Dems should have vote #19 next Monday or Tuesday to reopen the government on the “clean” CR, after those on SNAP don’t get their payments and after the ACA premiums get released. Government would then be funded through 11/21/25.

So two more weeks?

Well, people will start starving to death next week, so hopefully that'll jolt anyone in the GOP who isn't 100% evil to their core.

Trump doesn’t care if people are insured or not. He cares about himself and his ego and ketchup. There is nothing that can motivate him to end the shutdown. It’s just going to go on.

And then what? Another shutdown?

He's not motivated but he also doesn't care. This is not his sideshow. If the House and Senate send him something he can cast in a positive light, he'll sign it.

I see no vote on anything to open the government today. Assuming they again recess tomorrow afternoon for a 3+ day weekend, the next milestone seems to be the day after local elections, next Wednesday. So odds are we are out at least through Wednesday. I see the betting odds are showing 57% chance it goes through Nov. 14.

I’m glad I put all my use or lose leave on the books basically the day before the shutdown. I have a trip coming up the end of next week and it would appear I will not be using that leave.

Anyone else heard crickets since being furloughed?

Like crickets from your boss and co-workers? In my case, no. I'm a supervisor and we are directed to keep in touch at least once a week.

OP here, I’m an acting exec at the moment who is furloughed, as is my entire staff, and I’ve heard absolutely nothing from my next level exec nor been given any direction to communicate with my employees, though I have texted them of my own accord just to check in.

NP - I’m in the same boat, OP as far as being an acting exec with zero communication from my senior leadership. I haven’t texted my team yet, am going to do so shortly.

But overall, it’s been crickets, even beyond my immediate circle.

The president doesn’t shut down or open the government. Congress does that.

Why do you think the GOP will want to end the shutdown of ven if Democrats vote to do so?

Yep. The CR on the table only funds the government through 11/21. So if the dems pass it as-is we’ll be right back where we are in a few weeks.

This is up to the Democrats. Trump will keep on keeping on. He doesn’t care about anyone else.
