What’s it going to be like living in a dictatorship?

So when we have elections, and we will, they will be almost meaningless. Unless folks in “red states” wake up and realize GOP is screwing them and they stop voting for MAGA. It could happen but that would mean Dems need to put up candidates who will fight for working people, not middle of the road (nowhere) candidates.

This. It’s done. At this point it feels bleak and we are stuck. Our votes really don’t matter. And there’s no desire from the GOP to even try to pretend to run the government. As much as I dislike Trump, he’s right, we won’t have to worry about voting in the next election.

Authoritarians want us to feel defeated. It’s never over!

Did slaves just accept their fate? Make a plan to attend a No Kings rally, sign up to stay active, DO SOMETHING.

Come on people I know this is hard but anyone who says they’re giving up is obviously comfortable being a “good German“ Don’t be that.

And then there is this. A sign of things to come.

Democratic congresswoman-elect Adelita Grijalva still waiting to take her oath of office almost a month after winning her special election, as her state AG threatens legal action

But it might not be enough.

I think as things continue to get bad it only gets better for Democrats chances. People don’t like seeing masked men grab people off the street, farmers are getting screwed. Prices have not come down.

The Democrats need to run better candidates. Not the status quo. They need to stop playing it safe.

Bullying people is not the solution. And in case you aren’t sure, you are being a bully and it does not compel anyone to do what you want.

The rallies are fine. But if the GOP ramps up their not recognizing of election results (not sure how they should outdo J6 but we will find out) the next steps are courts, financial secession, and then armed resistance.

PS - there is already violence (see Feds gassing local police in IL and making false 911 reports)

If they label you as antifa the government can seize your family’s assets as “terrorist assets”. This will be enough to keep lost of us from protesting, trying to hang o to what we have so our kids can still go to college, we can still retire etc.

Why are we not fighting back? We can't just sit still and let the GOP destroy our country.
What can we do? Why are our leaders not fighting back? Are they so married to corporate interests that they dare not fight the GOP reign?

To answer OP's question. We ARE living in a dictatorship right now. It has already happened. Russ Vought is the dictator. Trump is the figurehead/cult leader. Stephen Miller is running the campaign to remove all immigrants (all non-white immigrants, that is) from U.S. soil.

Now what? We will lose a lot of our rights. Truth will be hard to find. Freedom of the press, which shrinks every day, will be lost. News will go underground. Many people will be arrested by the ICE brownshirts and thrown into "detention centers". Your phones and social media will be monitored, and anyone who criticizes the regime will be arrested. Fear will reign. Yes, you'll go to your job, and your kids will go to school, but they will learn propaganda in school, and you will be unable to express your criticism of the government. And everything will cost a lot more than it does now, and your lifestyle will sink lower and lower every year. The oligarchs will get richer every year -- off of you and me and everyone who is middle and working class.

We aren't fighting back because white people seem to think they can just put their heads down and survive a white supremacist authoritarian regime. Oh well for everyone else!

I’ve had our family scrub (as best we can) our social media profiles, to remove all political statements.

We are also all getting concealed gun permits. Not to carry guns but because your license shows that during a traffic spot. We want the police to imagine we too are fellow fascists.

We’ve also made small donations to the Leader’s political coffers.

So you joined them.

I ain’t no senator’s son, as the song goes.

The sending of 40 billion dollars to argentina while US healthcare gets fleeced; the collapse of the soybean market for midwest farmers etc are real issues that are impacting more red voters than blue voters.

Without elections this is hopeless. The best we can hope for is a military coup or Trump embroils us in WWIII when he tries to invade Greenland or whatever and the the regime is somehow defeated that way.

I was reading this thread because I feared all of this is really happening. I was reading it hoping that there would be a few replies saying we are over reacting and it’s not going to happen here in the U.S. I cannot believe this is where we are as a country, I cannot stop thinking about what life is going to be like in the coming years. I am scared for my children. I don’t know where to go or how to get my husband on board with the possibility of leaving.

the problem for most americans is, there is no where to go without literally going over the MX or CA borders illegally. Ironic, no?
