Jewish at Boston College

I think it would be fine, but jesuit schools are very Catholic. 70% at BC. Look at Georgetown instead.

Georgetown is Jesuit.

Georgetown is Jesuit.

True, but Georgetown is so international compared to BC, that the Catholicism feels more watered down.

I went to a Jesuit college. We don’t give a shit if you’re Jewish. Not even a little. But if you’re looking for a school with an active Jewish life, we’re not it.

My concern is more for the safety of my Jewish child on campus. Obviously Columbia is not a safe environment!

I know UVA was recently sued for failing to take any steps to protect Jewish students.

I’ve also heard horrendous stories about Brown, U. Of Wisconsin, and U. Of Georgia.

Some safer campuses for Jewish students might be Northeastern or even right here in town, at American U.

We looked at vanderbilt, wake forest, duke, upenn, georgetown, tulane, miami, usc (california), lehigh, and some larger flagships like Indiana, Michigan, etc. We initially considered bc and villanova, but after thinking about the limited options for jewish student life, decided against applying.

OP here LOL this is literally our list minus the big state flagships and adding Wash U and BU and Tufts

LOL people get bombed and starved and you say Columbia isn’t “safe.” Pull your head out of your ass, gain some perspective and use the word “safety” in a responsible way. Thanks.

BC alum here and while you won’t find an active Jewish community, at least not one that I was aware of, you’d find the environment much more welcoming than at many schools like Columbia or Penn or anywhere that has had a lot of pro-Palestinian rallies in the last 2 years. Jesuits, and BC students, are welcoming, warm and inclusive. You won’t find the far left anti-Semitic view points at BC.

It's the perfect size in a fabulous college town, has a great amount of school spirit, has a beautiful campus, with the kind of major she is interested in. I'm curious if there are any DCUMs that have a Jewish kid at BC and how that has been. I looked at the Hillel site, and there is an 'okay' sized Jewish population. Generally, Jesuit Universities are very cool with our people, so I wanted to just get some first hand experiences. TIA!

You raised an idiot in this political climate it is insane to think Boston College is a safe place for a Jew.

Shame on you #Never Forget dam fool.

The Catholic Universities are among the best private universities for Jewish students.

Georgetown is Jesuit.

But not really Catholic. Georgetown ditched its Catholic herotage a few years back.

Is it a program, the campus, or Boston that intrigues your DD? I would not send our Jewish daughter to a Catholic college.

I would encourage your daughter to check out BU, NEU, Tufts and Wellesley. Our daughter is at one of these schools and is loving it - the school, the location, Jewish life, their friends and their studies

Stop being obtuse and go back to your class at Columbia.

Which T50 schools would you suggest instead of BC?

I wouldn’t even respond to trash posts like that.

BC is in Newton, named one of the safest cities in the US. The population is also 25-30% Jewish. BC has had no problems with safety for anyone. You have no reason to worry about safety.
