Not OP, but it is actually quite the opposite. She used kindness to turn someone. Even fake kindness is better than a fight or power struggle.

She's a fake. Calling a fellow woman a "brat" with "Ha" is a terrible attitude.

Nope, some grown ass people really are brats.

OP here, and heck yea they are. I work in an industry that attracts quants and we have a lot of people who are probably somewhere on the spectrum. Many are awkward, anxious, etc. Almost none of them are downright rude.

I'm taking the W here. I hope she's happier, too.

I'd like to see the "brat's" side of things before I pick sides. OP could very well be an annoying middle aged woman who put the early career new hire on edge.

I have anxiety. I don't use it to be rude to people.

She may not realize she's being rude. That's the point.

And OP wasn't rude to her to make her aware. She was overly friendly and it worked. What's the problem?

Overly friendly to her face and calling her names behind her back. I'll just call OP a B straight out.

Calling someone a brat and a snot is really juvenile behavior.

I feel you OP. I’m currently killing someone at work with kindness and they are clearly thrown for a loop. Today they actually had a civil, professional conversation with me. I’m finding many people need to be socialized as if they’ve never interacted with humans before.

Grow up. You sound like a toddler.

Good for you. These days I’ll take any win for the common worker.

Has her behavior actually changed or is she just treating you differently? If it's just you, you haven't really trained her.

This is one of those "I don't think about you at all" moments. Why are you trying to win over someone in a different branch of the org chart and way junior to you. "I don't think about you at all"
