Penne vodka is weirdly popular with this age group. We took my kids friends out to dinner for her birthday and they basically all got this and it wasn’t even an Italian restaurant.
But mine loves— Spaghetti with meatballs Assemble your own tacos (grilled meat) Sushi |
|
Mine love make-your-own concept dinners like:
Make your own grilled cheese bar with different cheeses and spreads and pickles and salami etc as options; Make your own chipotle style bowls with rice, salad, chicken, beans, tortilla chips, guacamole, different kinds of salsa; Make your own Cava style bowls (same as above except middle eastern option- feta, olives, chick peas, tomato cucumber salad, etc) |
This. My teen daughter's fave meal is sushi and more sushi. Sashimi, oysters? Yes please. Also steak. Lobster, mussels. Not scallops so much. My son likes mac and cheese and chick nuggs. It's going to be very personal. But universally they all want to go out for a disgusting bubble tea or smoothies or chik-fil-a/raising canes- so I agree with PPs on that! |
| This is so mid dependent and area dependent. Are they from LA or KC? |
Mine hates chil fil a! Smoothies or açaí bowls or sushi yes. And steak. Agree on the make your own anything. Those frozen Mac and cheese balls from Trader Joe’s also seem wildly popular. |

Pasta Carbonara
Pesto pasta Fish n' chips Steak Fish Tacos Chicken Schwarma Chicken Caesar Salad |
| Mine probably likes best meals like stuffed shells, lasagna, pasta with vodka sauce (all with garlic bread and caesar salad), or taco or burrito bowls (we call it DIY Chipotle night). |
|
My teen Dads favorite homemade meal is probably homemade Alfredo with bow tie pasta. 2nd favorite is pesto chicken pizza I make on naan bread.
But you need to ask them. Do they have phones? Can you ask them directly if your brother won’t give you a straight answer? |
Yeah, I'm thinking what would people feed me, if they went on DCUM and asked what 40 year old women like lol. It's so personal. |
|
Why not take the girls shopping and let them pick out food? See if they want to go to Costco or hmart or Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s.
People are so different. My kids wouldn’t eat much of what’s been suggested. I mean, maybe the Alfredo but only if sauce made with cashews or avocado. |

Sushi
At home my daughters like to roll their own veggie sushi (I’m not confident enough to use fish) Avocado, carrots, cucumbers, tofu all make great fillings and it’s a fun “activity” type meal. We have wasabi and soy sauce for dipping. Tacos Make your own pizza (get dough from Trafer Joes and have the girls assemble it with their favorite toppings.) |

| My kids always love breakfast for dinner. Pancakes or French toast, bacon or scrambled eggs, fresh fruit. They’ll eat a parfait of yogurt, fruit and granola any time of day. |
|
