Doesn't show when they shit the bed literally any time they play a team that has similiar atheltes or just better soccer players. |
| Both my kids teams do game film review more so for my older one. But at least once or twice a season for the younger one. They also get film homework to do, but I think that is less effective. |
| Wait until your club makes the team wear GPS tracker bras and then never goes over the data gained from them. Another waste of time. |
Haha, good to know, our Coach has been suggesting we pay for this too. |
Which age group is this? |
09's |
Is having better players a bad thing? Usually the more athletic team wins in girls soccer. You should go see the ecnl finals some time. |
| Film review sucks. It’s boring. It’s not a fun time. Ever get a room of kids together to watch a game they already played and know the score of? Is film review helpful, sure. Coaches should be cutting clips and showing specific moments not full games or halves. Also a coach saying “watch the film and analyze yourself” is lazy. They should have questions that players are looking to analyze. I bet majority of youth players don’t really know what they are looking for. |
The main outcome of the VDA film study is making players fearful of being called out during the review in front of the team. In theory that motivates them to work harder. In practice it builds a toxic fear culture. My daughter hates it. |
Thanks, VDA parent! Totally not a troll post… |

Totally agree with this- our club includes it in the fee but under 2 different coaches now (both good coaches so not a critique), it's never been used. The kids use it to post their goals/saves/amazing moments.
Love the idea of an occasional film review. |
DD has watched full games on her own. Any time that we have had "film sessions" it's been focused moments which is much better than just sitting around and watching a full game. |
| Film review could be so much more efficient if these people would just embrace technology. It takes maybe 20 minutes to skim and tag an entire game. As a coach you're only looking at team tactical moments both good and bad that touch on what you're doing as a team. A few more key plays here and there. Type up your notes and you're done in a less than an hour total. Review with the team might be 45min that can be done over a zoom call. |
20 minutes to review a game that lasts 70-90 minutes? What? |
| You can't rely on any coach or club to watch the film for you. We use MatchTrak to track and guide. |
