An observation on how to drastically reduce stress and fights w/ DC during college apps

Most have jobs like regional bank VP in a mid-sized Southern metro, or they're crushing it in big-ticket B2B sales. The strivers are still working 80-90 hours a week trying to climb the ladder in soul-sucking jobs they hate. Even their weekends are spent either working or worrying about work while the SEC bros spent last Saturday in Athens tailgating for Alabama vs. Georgia. The next time you're on 30a, chase down the first Bimmer you see (it won't take long) and ask the driver for college advice. The closest thing to an Ivy-plus you'll hear come out of his mouth is UF.

You post this nonsense constantly...and it's fairly clear these aren't people you know at all, but rather some weird characterization of people who went to SEC schools.

The only thing different about today's post is you no longer have them driving Cybertrucks because you realized that almost nobody purchased a Cybertruck and its now officially a huge bust with thousands gathering dust on lots.

This is like another language to me.

Ugh - this sounds like an incredibly miserable life. What a waste to do stuff your whole life that isn't even purposeful. What the heck is even a Bimmer? Sounds like an ugly pollution machine. So sad. Sorry that's all you could make of your life.

It is possible to not be stressed, go to a top school, work less than 40hrs/wk, raise your own kids, live in DMV, and do actual good for humanity on a daily basis. Ask me how I know.

What sorts of amazing things are you doing with your life that a Bimmer, a vacation house on 30A, and season tickets to your SEC alma mater sound "miserable" to you? Some people would rather actually enjoy their lives than constantly puff their chests and prattle about what a difference they're making in the world.

Yes, and look how miserable most of the posters here seem. Now compare that to the atmosphere on 30A during a typical weekend. It's basically the adult version of an SEC fraternity party. It's the same bros still crushing it and loving life, only instead of drinking Natty Light from a keg in a fraternity basement, they're now driving Bimmers, working big boy jobs, and married to beautiful women.

To answer OP’s question - hire a by-the-hour college consultant and transfer that stress and conflict with your DC to them.

TF is a “bimmer”?

So…what happened to the Cybertrucks?

Imo, the best way to avoid stress with your kid is to outsource the process. We did not do that, but most of our friends hired private counselors. These parents paid a lot and were informed but stayed out of the process. So much easier to have a third party create a narrative and set and monitor the deadlines. Many of those private counselors frequently encourage kids to shoot lower for ED so they can claim success and be done early. Those are also the same families that can afford those super fancy winter holidays to celebrate...

That he/she posts like it’s something to aspire to kills me. A dumb southern SAH wife and tailgating at 50…while it’s still 90 degrees and humid in the parking lot and he’s got swap@ss down in sh@tsville.

I’d be seriously ready to check out if anybody told me I’d have to move to the south.
