Revised SOL Cut Scores

Asinine changes but an administration bent on making our schools look bad.

Want to increase rigor? Then do so while maintaining that scoring system of 400=pass and 500=pass advanced. The new scoring thresholds will only serve to confuse educators, the community, and drive a further wedge into public ed. Thankful that VDOE is going to be gutted after the November election!

The level for passing will not be uniformly raised across all grades - hence the range of new cutoff scores. The rise in cutoff will also occur over several years, not all at once.

The level for passed advance isn't discussed, but presumably it will also have to be adjusted


The one article says pass proficient for 4th grade math will go from 400 to 445, which if pass advanced was 500, presume they will look to raise that too

No this would be a huge legal battle across the state. If you change criteria it has to be a moving forward change. It's like saying mid senior year just kidding what you have been doing for the last four years does not count because w changed diploma options sorry. Also SOL's are a joke. This is just this psycho admin trying to move forward with their voucher program.

Time for teachers across the state to say NO together. Everyone is constantly pivoting mid year. You want to overhaul you do it by giving schools time, resources and well thought out planned actions. ENOUGH mid year pivots. No one can teach with the constant inconsistence and uncertainty. Everyone one of my colleagues is damn tired and the kids are the ones losing out with the unattainable demands that take away from actual teaching and learning.

This change will just make our schools look bad… If they do change it, then make it something that will be from this point… because the kids that are under a 430 who have passed in the system will be marked as a fail, and that is bad for teachers, students, and the state, since it will show more students have been failing their state test (which is a complete joke)

Manipulating data in an effort to defund our public schools.

Doing this while also making the SOL part of the final grade but cutting funding and staffing at the same time is nonsensical and punitive. We can’t magically raise the scores for kids who have massive gaps in education or are EL and taking these tests in their second language without more support.

What an absolutely idiotic statement. Have you actually seen Pearson tests? No, you have not, because most aren't released to the public. You haven't seen how poorly composed the reading selections are, how obtusely worded are the questions, and how most questions actually contain several steps of completion that must ALL be correct in order to get any credit (which they call increased "rigor".)

The tests are designed to make schools looks like they are failing. And arbitrarily raising the pass score from 400 to 453 or 479 is utterly ARBITRARILY going to make a passing student look like a failing student, and a good school look like a bad school.

You have to ask: Who does this benefit? Do you really believe that 3rd grade reading proficiency should arbitrarily be cut off at a much higher level than proficiency used to be measured at?

No. This is entirely political, entirely pushed by the testing companies who continues to profit obscenely by siphoning public education money away from schools, and pushed by politicians whose goals are to shot down public schooling as we know it.

Related- anyone know when the Fall 2025 accreditation results are released? Last I looked it just says coming soon
