How many at fault accidents have you caused?

So many good drivers in the DMV, apparently.

0.

When I was 16 I pulled into a parking spot quickly after someone parked in the next spot, and they opened their door and I drove into it (not quickly but still bent the frame). That's honestly the last time I can recall being clearly to blame for a traffic incident.

Since then I've been rear ended at a red light, side-swiped off of a highway by a driver who didn't check before changing lanes (that caused a 7 car pileup!), and had about a dozen near-misses.

3 total accidents in my life (have been driving for 29 years).

2 - completely not my fault.

1 - both at fault (I was 22).

In the last 10 years? No accidents at all. My last accident was 18 years ago (not at fault).

A lot of accidents are easily preventable, even if it's someone else's error. Just pay attention. Stop spacing out. Stop relying on your vehicle's safety mechanisms and learn to be a defensive driver - you need to pay attention to your surroundings, check your mirrors constantly.

I mean of all the posts that are going to draw a self-selecting bunch of replies, this one is up there — do you think anyone who got into an accident they were at fault for last week is going to come on here and be admitting it?

Did this thread get started because of the bicyclist thread?

None. I had my first (one car) accident at 18 where I wasn't driving slow enough on an exit, and spun out on wet leaves and hit a guard rail. I have only been in one other car accident that was my fault and I rear ended someone. Just wasn't paying enough attention and the cars in front of me suddenly slowed drastically. That was 16 years ago. I have been hit by other cars multiple times.

0 in last ten years. 1 total in 41 years. In my 20s I was coming up on a red light that turned green, and I was slowing down but not expecting to stop. Vehicle at light was towing a car. I had just gotten fast food and looking at my sandwich when I looked up, the car in front had not started to move forward as quickly as I had anticipated they would and I hit the towed car. It was a jaguar. I paid them $800 (in the 1990s!) and didn't put in on insurance. So in terms of my driving record with insurance, it's 0 in 41 years.

I wonder about the number of accidents people have because I see so many drivers speeding and driving aggressively everyday. They must have a lot of wrecks.

0 at faults in 25 years. Worst mistake i made wad 2 weeks after I got my license and running a stop sign and nearly getting hit in the intersection.

Been rear ended 3 times and someone clipped my front making a left turn while I was going straight through an intersection. No damage on that one somehow.

1 ever. Red light turned green. Car in front of me started rolling and then stopped short. I rear ended them.

One, right about ten years ago. Rear ended the car in front of me in stop and go traffic. It was dark and I misjudged how quickly they were stopping. 100% my fault.

Two others in the same time that were not my fault. Rear ended at a red light (not even hitting my brakes, I was at a full stop for at least a minute before the other guy came up behind and didn't stop), and another car turned left into me.

There must be someone here who rear ended all of you guys like ten times. Confess!
