We had a Charity and two girls named Chastity which looking back is an awful name for your child. Chastity I’d also not uncommon but it means sexual restraint?! |
| It's a lame name. |
|
Better names would be
Chaos Entropy Maelstrom Stinker |
Right. Unity Mitford. And she was unsuccessful in shooting herself in the head. Extensive brain damage. Died of the injuries five years later in 1948, That's why the name isn't used. |

I had an ancestor named Prosper. His family had been New England Puritans, although by the time he was born they had lived in another part of the country for a couple of generations. |
| Unity sounds too close to Eunice, that high-strung woman on the show Mama’s Family. |
I love your list! I agree that Unity Mitford ruined the name, which was not great to begin with. I like Effluvia, Detritus, and Debris. I actually met someone named Debris! |
|
Unity sounds like a company or a team nowadays, or part of one: Unisys or City Name United
There's Unity Mitford. Better personal quality/Early American names that are more common with better connotations: Faith Hope Charity Prudence Patience Mercy Constance |
| Boris |
| I know several ladies named Faith, Joy, Hope, Charity, one named Delight, and one named Mercy. |
| I knew a chastity who got pregnant when she was 16 |
| My spouse has a male colleague named Innocent. |
I don’t think it’s fair to tar the entire Mitford family with the fascist brush. Yes, there was Unity and then her sister who married a famous British fascist, but the other 4 sisters had nothing to do with fascism. |
