Sounds like a miscarriage.
In early Peri, I did have very heavy periods with large gushes/clots that at least once stained the sofa cushion. A year and a half later, I get two days of heavy period every 3-4 months.
I had horrible periods like that when I was in peri. You should mention to your doctor. What mine said at the time is that as long as it’s not a regular occurrence, it’s fine. It’s also very normal for your period to stop and then restart a few days later. Basically abnormal is normal.
OP here. Thank you everyone! I will mention it at my Gyn appointment!
I had this and it lasted for years. Finally stopped with an IUD. (I know people will say that it's crazy that I let it go on from years but it started right before the pandemic and then it was impossible to get an appointment, then they tried like 3 different things before going to the IUD. Thank God I was working remotely for most of that time as I had to change everything basically every hour, sometimes every 20 minutes.)

tranexamic acid has been working well for me to mitigate excessive peri menstrual bleeding

I have periods like this and have become anemic - about to turn 47 and honestly it’s been more or less since my 8 year old was born and periods resumed (so like 7 years!) Not quite as bad as you describe but the first day I use an ultra tampon and heavy period underwear and still routinely bleed through my jeans if I don’t change every 1-2 hours.
I’d mentioned this to my gyn before and she hadn’t seemed so concerned. She had said to take iron for the anemia and if that didn’t help I should go on birth control. I didn’t love being on the pill from 19-32 and my DH has a vasectomy so I was hoping to not go on the pill for his. I mentioned it to my gp who ordered an ultrasound and it relieved a polyp. I actually just had surgery and they found two more polyps. I’m hoping that will help address the problem - if not I’ll decide whether to continue managing with iron or go on pill (or iud). I haven’t started HRT and my periods are still very regular. My GP suggested having a conversation soon about HRT but my gyn hasn’t raised it other than BCPs to manage the bleeding. I recently had a few nights of night sweats - but two I was on a new (unrelated) medication and two I was traveling and the duvet was really heavy so I’m not sure I’m having that symptom “for keeps” yet. |
