I don’t disagree, but note that a million dollar house in NY, CA and MA, and other places as well, costs half as much or less in other parts of the country, and that the replacement house will cost . . . a million dollars unless you move to a cheaper OOS place. But the FA calculation is the price of UMC success in some of the most desirable, most expensive parts of the US. |
This is a discount of over $67,000 !!!
Leaves a cost of attendance of about $22,000 to $24,000 for room, board, fees, & books. Travel expenses may also be a factor for many students. Realistically, the total COA including spending money for essentials & travel = $100,000. |
You can move further out or in a lesser area, like many of us did and get a cheaper house and then save that extra for college. Colleges shouldn't have to fund your lifestyle choices. And, then people will just drop or hide their income to qualify. |
Continuing: Emory lists its total COA at just over $88,000 per undergraduate academic year, but this does not include travel, personal necessities expenses, and books. |
All of these schools making these massive pronouncements for attention are really annoying. How about lowering tuition for everyone. And making the families making $175k contribute at least a little bit to have some skin in the game. And perhaps snowflake can get a job to help a bit. This is such a dumb trend. |
Same with our family. HHI of 150 and no financial aid from a school that says families with less than 200k go for free. Not true. We are not wealthy. Read the fine print. |
