Fired feds - how is the search going

ME: IT Contractor for Federal agency, with security clearance, generalist not SME
Age: late 50s (but look younger and removed older jobs off resume)
Laid Off: early August
Jobs Applied: apx 30 (but some were fake or proposal stage)
Offers: 2 received last week, exactly one month after leaving past job; 2 contingent offers in the works awaiting new fiscal year funding
Pay: new employer matched my last salary but a few less vacation days, similar good benefit package
Status: very lucky and easier than expected (but my resume was very thorough and portrayed my experience very well)

Similar situation here. Tough times. Even freelance work has been difficult to find. I also got no severance since I was a long-term contractor, not a fed. Fortunate to have an employed spouse with health insurance for the family. Good luck to all who are still looking.

Another one here. Not a Fed, but laid off due to fed cuts. Three interviews that have gone nowhere, and I have a fourth scheduled next week, but it’s only part-time work.

Is it another contracting position? I'm also a laid off contractor and I swear these are the only positions that reach out despite applying in other fields.

Yes! But do some quick research in government press or company websites to preferably apply to recent contract awards otherwise you may be applying to “fake” (proposals) or unfunded job postings. Also, you may be better off applying to the large employers who are more likely to be the primes. Good luck!

It's rough.
