Submit score or TO to W&M?

Instate, 4.0 uw/4.47 with 6 APs and honors where possible.
Has shown lots of demonstrated interest - tour, interview and shadow day.
Good ECs and service in areas of interest and will do “optional” essays.
Has been on two sports teams at school that pushed her out of her comfort zone but not an athlete.

1400 is at the bottom end of their average. Assuming she doesn’t get a better score, submit or not?

I definitely would not submit and I don't know why people here are telling you to do so. Based upon SCHEV, last year's W&M entering class had a 1530 at the 75th percentile, a 1470 at the median, and a 1400 for the bottom 25th percentile of the class. Unless you are a URM, first-generation student, or an athlete, you don't qualify for admission with a 1400 at the 25th percentile of the class. Her GPA is good but the 75th percentile had a 4.53 and median a 4.35. ECs, you say are average. This is not a terrific profile for ED at W&M. The real question is how does your DD compare to fellow classmates who have been accepted to W&M? Whom in her class is she competing against? Did they get in with a 1400? That's who you should be asking - her college counselor - not here.

Re SAT, can you tutor and have her retake? Also. ask her counselor if those she is competing against have more than 6 APs. Many kids who get into W&M and UVA have 10-12. Also, you don't mention rigor. Ask her HS counselor if they are indicating she has taken the most rigorous courses offered by her high school. And what is her class rank?

DD had a 31 Act and we debated whether or not to submit with her ED app a couple of years ago as it was right around 25%. Counselor was unsure as well. Ultimately she decided that she had worked hard for that score and was proud of it so she submitted it. She was accepted and loves it there. Good luck to your DC!

It’s kind of in the middle of nowhere. most hiring for CS and Business is at govt or Deloitte type places.

arts and science people mostly go to grad school.

so does that mean that this is a good place only if you want to go to grad school like law or med?

Because they want a great education from an institution that has an excellent reputation with employers and for grad school admission.

My DS went TO for ED1 and was admitted. His score was much lower and he may have submitted if it had been a 1400. I think you are right on the cusp. It sounds like she is a strong candidate either way.

If applicant is from outside NOVA they will be fine as 1400 validates GPA. If from NOVA it will be a challenge if school offers more than 10 or 12 APs.

w&m is not the best option if your kids post graduation plans involve working in the corporate sector..

If you don't submit it, won't admissions officers assume it's pretty bad....like less than 1300?

OP here. Thought I'd update that the 1400 was ultimately submitted and she was accepted ED1.

Excellent! Thanks for the update. It’s a beautiful place & there aren’t many places I’d rather spend 4 years.

It’s so rare that people come back to post an update — I for one appreciate hearing them!
