It’s unusual, and temporary. The maga party is a particularly dangerous and divisive group. Once they are gone, this will not be an issue. That being said, if one in a partnership chooses to be MAGA, then it’s their choice to lose friends and family. |
The Republican party wasn't MAGs in the 80s. Through the first half of the 90s there were a fair number of reasonable Republicans, and smaller numbers continued into 2000s. But its been a very different time ever since the Tea Party and later Trump. |
I think you dodged a bullet. Go back to the buffet and pick up a new plate. |
+1 imagine if you got serious, several years later... you will become annoyed with his constant talk of politics. |
Ok, lol, I read that as they vote the same as they are same political party. Can OP confirm whether they voted for the same presidential candidate in last year's US election or not? |
He's just not that into you. |
Not being political now is tacit acceptance and obedience in advance. I would dump you too. |
Right. If you're implicitly ok with what is going on, then you're culpable just like the MAGAs. |
OP and her (now ex) boyfriend don’t disagree on politics; they differ in how much of an impact politics has in their daily life and the level of engagement they seek. |
You two weren't politically compatible. Move on. |
I OD on political news. Spouse and I are the same page (for the most part) politically. I have never felt the need to have a discussion about it with my spouse. |
OP here. Confirming that we voted for the same candidate for the last several elections, even to the local level.
I think Pp explained it best. We differ in terms of the level of engagement |
There's some extent to which constant news consumption produces anxiety. I've seen this in different aunts, one who has Fox News on all day, ine who has MSNBC on all day. Different viewpoints, same dopamine addiction and anxiety |
DC is the most screwed up place for political thinking. For the most part, people in this area think they are more politically astute simply because of their proximity to the seat of government. This could not be further from the truth. The fact is, because people are so close and usually only a few degrees away from the federal government, that they are MUCH LESS KNOWLEDGEABLE about government. Let me explain. Their political knowledge is based on theory and political ideology. Their own finances are tied to government money. They literally have no other industry that supports them. (with a few exceptions of course). The rest of the country is tied to local economies that have value based on the goods or services that they produce (automotive, technology, hospitality, furniture, farming, etc....). As a result, they are directly impacted by the policies and trade agreements set forth by DC. Because of this, they are much more aware of what these policies mean for them and the industries they support and that support them. Basically speaking, our prosperity in DC is built on the backs of everyone else in this country. The people of this region are not much more than welfare recipients of the rest of the country, and honestly, your opinions are the lease valid of anyone else's in this country. It's funny how you don't realize your own stupidity and ignorance. As a result, we have fools breaking up with their spouses and lovers over something that they know very little about. You don't see this happening most other places. |
I'm sorry what do you not understand about the state of the US losing all your rights?? You are an idiot and it is good he dumped you. We are in the fight of our lives for our freedom for the Constitution for what our military died for and you don't give a shit? Grow the hell up. |
