This year's calendar stinks for ES kids but for HS seniors...

Special elections need to be on the weekend as when they pop up late in the game it really messed with the calendar, my middle schooler has two days of even block in a row. I know weather can cause the same issue but lets not add to the problem. FCPS used to be open on many election days except I think Presidential. Also SACC used to open on election days and now it doesn't.
It was closed for every Nov election, regardless of year. The first time I remember it closing for a primary or special election was for the Presidential primaries starting in 2016.

My HS senior got to do a college visit yesterday and my sophomore got to sleep in and catch up on homework. 10/10 would recommend.

I like it. Random mid-week days off are great to catch up on sleep, chores and homework. And for doctors and dentist appointments without need to miss school time!

I love a good long weekend like everyone else, but rarely it is productive. And my HS likes to hang out with friends and ends up not Tuttle catching up with homework.

Kids got to sleep in and catch up on homework. Win!

Same, same! I know it would drive me crazy if I had young kids but I love it for my 8th and 10th grader.

Y'all raising some weak kids.

I acknowledge it's hard for working parents of small kids who need all day supervision, but for 5th grade and higher the "random" days off and 3 day weekends are great...for doing schoolwork, sleeping, having downtime, having appointments, etc. All the things people have mentioned. Summer break is long enough: we're happy with the FCPS calendars as-is.

Parent of secondary kids here too, and we also love it. Classes are intense and a break here and there is very helpful.

Parents of high schoolers: is anyone dreading the 5 day week next week?! Luckily it’s the last one of the quarter!

Last and only one in September.
October 6-10 and the last week of the quarter October 27-31 are full weeks.

My kids (10th and 7th) were asking which day they have off next week and were bummed when I told them they have to go all 5 days!

I might be an outlier but the number of 4-day weeks drives me bananas. I’d prefer a longer summer break so high schoolers can take advantage of seasonal employment, and also because the 4-day workweek is not really widespread as far as the real world goes, so we’re not teaching them to cope with the demands of a real job by having all these random 4-day weeks.

Ridiculous! If kids cant handle 5 days of school without a needed break, there is something wrong. Why are your kids in such desperate need to sleep and catch up on week 3?

Also, I tried to get dr appointments either Tuesday or the half day yesterday and couldn't. So had to find another day to leave early for that as well. Its not convenient.

You're not an outlier. I am a parent of two HS kids and we all hate this calendar. It is a total joke!!! It is amazing that so many people don't want their kids educated and want them to have breaks all the time!!! Get a grip!

+1.

No one needs this many days off!
