This year's calendar stinks for ES kids but for HS seniors...

I was previously very annoyed with this year's calendar...however, with a senior who is applying to Theatre schools (which means you apply to 20+ schools and have to film videos and write additional essays) I have decided to embrace this schedule which allows for random sleeping in on weekdays and a full day of work on college apps. That's all.

The closure today isn't the fault of the FCPS calendar - you would do better to blame Connolly for dying of cancer.

I don't have a senior yet but said someone similar today about how these days off are really good for my kid. School is A LOT.

The calendar sucks and should be amended for the rest of this year and next. How can anyone learn with this circus?

The calendar is awful.
But, I have a kindergartener and trying to remind myself to actually take a few of those days off with him and enjoy our time while he's little, I stead of scrambling for backup care. (I do recognize my privilege in saying this, because I get great vacation time with my job)

We love it! I’ve got a middle schooler and a sophomore and it helps so much with sleep and catching up on work!

I appreciate it as a teacher. I spent all day today writing college letters of recommendation, catching up on grading, and doing IEP/504 narratives for my students with meetings coming up.

Since half my planning time has gone to "bathroom and hallway duty" this year, I need these days to stay on top of my job.

One of my kids got a haircut ant another caught up on homework. Looking at it as a gift.

There's a ton of coughing and runny noses ...glad to have a 24hr break from kids' germs (and hoping germs die on surfaces in 24hrs too).

And traffic was so light!

Kind of like powering through MS to keep Hs and eS times, would power thru all the data off in ES to have this schedule now for MS and HS-echo especially helpful in HS.

+1 I have a high schooler and like having a day off during the week, allow them to catch up with work and sleep

Are we now going to end up with another day off for a special elecion to replace Walkinshaw and then if Moon or Sizemore-Heizer win the BOS seat will there we yet another special election. Special elections need to be on the weekend as when they pop up late in the game it really messed with the calendar, my middle schooler has two days of even block in a row. I know weather can cause the same issue but lets not add to the problem. FCPS used to be open on many election days except I think Presidential. Also SACC used to open on election days and now it doesn't.
