Are you in your early 20s and a recent graduate looking for employment after massive layoffs at the onset of a recession? |
| why do you want to sell your soul? |
| Hands down Apple. Absolutely no contest. |
Apple will do the same soon. Tim Cook is a moron. |
|
Depends on what you do for them.
Dev ops at apple vs DS at meta - Meta Hardware at apple va censorship at meta - apple you get the idea |
Mission is not important here. Private sector all missions roll up to maximize shareholder values. |

Why choose either? Yes, they are prestigious names, but what will your kid really learn as a fresh out of college employee? The goal is not just to get another credential, but to actually learn something useful. That can be accomplished virtually anywhere. The drive comes from inside, not from a manager who is only going to use/abuse your kid to get a promotion.
I've worked for several prestigious companies in my 30 year career - very well known tech companies in SV - and found the arrogance at every one of them to be stifling. None of them thought they were wrong and demanded high margins from their customers because of monopoly power. Now that I'm an executive at a customer of those same companies, I can see the arrogance on full display (rather than disguised as company spirit, pride, etc...) I have a great deal of influence on whether we continue to be a customer, and I don't tolerate aggressive salespeople who lie to me. |

Meta for a SWE role. Apple for hardware or PM roles and pretty much everything else.
|
| was the candidate able to interview with the hiring manager/team in either company? ultimately, ones immediate manager is who will make or break the overall experience. i'd say go with whichever team gave them a good gut feel. either is going to be a solid start on a tech resume, though there are some people who look down on meta out of principle |

Apple builds quality real products.
Meta builds "conflict" in the name of "engagement." Only psychopaths choose Meta. |

Your child is brilliant if both of those places want them. Congrats. Lots of kids are still struggling.
Frankly just flip a coin and decide. It's their first job and regardless of toxicity both places will look good on a resume because they will be challenged at both places. Good luck to them. I was in a similar situation many many years ago between Lockheed and boeing for computational fluid dynamics. I flipped a coin and started with boeing. |
| Have you read a paper? Just today there are two articles in the Post about Meta’s corrupt and possibly criminal actions. Definitely not a place to work if you have a choice. |
| DON'T DO IT! |
Both. |
