Because my kid plays travel sports with varying practice times and we don’t live in DC and have a long commute to the school. We have to be able to do homework when we can. Had we known this was the school’s policy we would have looked at other schools. We need a school that’s a good fit, and one that wants to police when my children sleep isn’t it.

I think the school is right, and you should think about the long term impact of your choices on your child's health.

9pm.

What grades? This seems reasonable for elementary; homework shouldn’t be going past 9 pm.

Middle School. I had no objection for lower grades, as homework was minimal. But in Middle School it ramps up heavily. A 9pm cutoff isn’t going to foster success.

It prioritizes sleep and mental health, which you're willing to sacrifice for...travel sports???

Do you not have another laptop to use? These chrome books are dirt cheap. This is a non-issue.

7th grade is 12 years old. Your 12 year old middle schooler up past 9pm doing homework is what you're looking for ?

They're not looking for that. Getting work done, even when tired, is an unfortunate reality of life. If homework is assigned and due then they have to do what they have to do.

Some schools are not a good fit for students with heavy extracurricular commitments. It sounds like yours is one of them, OP. You might have to find a different school that allows you to prioritize the sports.

Has your child been at this same school before middle school? When did you become aware of this policy? Is it a new policy?

lol - 12 year old child has to do what they have to do. Life in your house sounds amazing, poor kids.

The issue here is not the Chromebook policy or the workload.

Tell me you are raising your kids to be mediocre without telling me...

What a smart school. Sounds like they are parenting

Sounds to me, school is faced with demand to introduce tech to kids early, laptops are having adverse effects on kids and now they want to attempt to mitigate these effects but still require kids to use it within constraints determined by the school as suitable (similar to what tech the school deemed as appropriate to push on kids when). Going back to, do kids really need tech as early as lower elementary grades?

Right? As long as they make CEO of a Fortune 500 by age 35, who cares if they have a heart attack at age 50?

My kids are very happy. If their school assigns homework then we assume that the homework is important and that it has to get done by the due date.
