Rules for COVID?

I can't believe an actual parent would still put a mask on their kid.

Don't make others sick.

The current guidance from DC Health is: Student should not attend school until 24 hours after fever resolves, without fever-reducing medication and other symptoms have improved.

So it seems as if the DCPSStrong website is not current policy. Thanks, all!

So they can go back tomorrow since they aren’t actually sick.

We got the same guidance as OP at Back to School Night last year. The DCPS Strong site is old and hasn’t reflected the current school guidance for awhile now (which changed in spring 2024, I think). Basically, they’re not supposed to exclude a totally asymptotic kid from school - so there’s no reason to test unless you need to get meds or have specific severe conditions.

I wouldn't worry about excused/unexcused absences. Your kids would have to miss a lot of school before anyone actually cares.

This is OP. My kids are wearing masks to school until they test negative.

This is overkill. Just send them to school

Thank you for caring about the health of their classmates. Seems like many on this forum don’t. Good on you.

It is not "funny"

This is why we have the idiot Anti maxers, idiot Anti vaxers so now when we do get another virus that is deadly people will die in mass because of all the disinformation from Republican anti-American garbage.

It is now illegal to talk about covid or wear a mask.

Adding thanks for caring about others’ health. Re excused/unexcused: in addition to mattering for the total number (at all ages), it also matters for older kids because teachers aren’t required to let them make up work (resulting in lower grades) if absence is unexcused.

Well I am a middle school teacher in DC and many kids are electing to wear masks on their own when they are not feeling 100 or when a classmate seems to be feeling not that well. Some actually ask me for masks, but I tell them we don't get them like we did when we just came back off of regular. However, they can go ask the nurse.
