Deal with plenty of great people too and completely neutral people.

I definitely don't agree with OP. There is a part of the population like OP describes and they seem to the the most outspoken and noticeable so sometimes it feels like they are everywhere.

I agree there are lots of people of all personalities but there are also a lot of people like this. Way too many for a healthy society.

+1
Could be confirmation bias or squeaky wheel but it's definitely impactful and in a bad way.

Your friends are friends are funny and witty about .... pedophilia? Rape? Embezzlement? Stiffing employees? Tax fraud?

Help us understand here because it sounds like your friends are scumbags.

OP, you sound like my mom. It’s one of her least attractive qualities. Do better.

I wouldn’t let this one individual’s behavior affect how I would feel about everyone else in general.

They are vane and self absorbed.

Case in point- I went to a very popular DC restaurant about a month ago and mentioned that during a staff meeting that Monday .

Employee A explained how that was one of her besties from HS, was an awesome dude, they are super tight, shoulda let me know you were going blah blah blah

Today, the dude gets arrested for something very, very bad. I see it on the news and text her "Holy sh*t, your buddy is on the news!"

And she texts back "Barely knew the guy."

I've lost so much respect for her.

Ayup.

Capitalism makes people desperate for status/money. This is how things run in our society. Bullshit = $$$ in the USA

Try North Korea. Or give up all your posessions and become like Cain.

You won't though. You want everyone else besides you to give up their money, so you will be elevated by default.

They are the ones that tend to get ahead. It's a sucky reality, but a lot of them know how to play the game.

This. I am learning too. I was so naive.

Don’t worry, you obviously still don’t get it. Your respect is not worth having.
