The majority of them are reflexive, egotistcal bullsh*tters. They lie and exaggerate anything to improve thier image (in their view).
They are vane and self absorbed. Case in point- I went to a very popular DC restaurant about a month ago and mentioned that during a staff meeting that Monday . Employee A explained how that was one of her besties from HS, was an awesome dude, they are super tight, shoulda let me know you were going blah blah blah Today, the dude gets arrested for something very, very bad. I see it on the news and text her "Holy sh*t, your buddy is on the news!" And she texts back "Barely knew the guy." I've lost so much respect for her. |
| You've got a lot of issues. |
Capitalism makes people desperate for status/money. This is how things run in our society. Bullshit = $$$ in the USA |
| Um. |
| I tried to look this up but it's seems there are too many DC restaurant owners who are criminals so I don't know who OP is talking about. |
|
In my job, I'm around alllll kinds of people. I deal with people having the best days of their lives and that worst. I deal with VIP people who think they are Gods, narcissists, addicts, aggressive people, normal people on power trips, and all kinds of other difficult personalities. Deal with plenty of great people too and completely neutral people.
I definitely don't agree with OP. There is a part of the population like OP describes and they seem to the the most outspoken and noticeable so sometimes it feels like they are everywhere. |
I agree there are lots of people of all personalities but there are also a lot of people like this. Way too many for a healthy society. |
They are the ones that tend to get ahead. It's a sucky reality, but a lot of them know how to play the game. |
Ayup. |
Clout-chasers and hangers on? Yeah, I guess, temporarily. I've not known a whole lot of these types to achieve any meaningful or lasting success of their own though. Most of them get caught/called out like OP's co-worker sooner rather than later. |

You are the company you keep.
Also, write better. |
| I think a look in the mirror might be helpful, OP. |

1. I think this post hit too close to home for many of the respondents.
2. Remember, this is DC. |
| You need smarter friends or to be smarter. I would have seen this as a joke and laughed because my friends are funny and would be witty like this. |
| These people have always existed. However, before the internet and social media we really didn't know about them. Tech is breaking down society. |
