Private schools recs (Fairfax/Reston/Vienna)

Green Hedges in Vienna has this math option based on a placement test. They may have room in 6th. I’d call. They start school on Tuesday.

Dominion Christian uses Singapore Math variant Math in Focus for K-6 and, for Geometry, Jacobs' (supplemented by selections from Euclid's elements -- it's classical, after all.) It's a small school, so their primary acceleration is moving kids up a grade level. Standard track has kids taking Algebra in 8th. Math was not the driver behind our switch to here, but it's been good so far for our high-math-stats kids.

Ad Fontes, somewhat south of your target range, is the only school I know of in the area that uses honest-to-gosh Singapore Math, in this case Standards Ed, which is very close to my favorite curriculum for most kids (SM US Ed.)

Not sure about Ideaventions' math curriculum, but they have an exceptional track record, so presumably they are doing something right. It is a tiny school that only takes high stats kids; over the past couple of years, half their graduates have been National Merit Semi-Finalists.

Colleague is very happy with Dominion Christian school for her kids. She and her family are mainstream Protestant, not evangelical. No experience with the school myself.

Nysmith has a terrible head of school.

How so?

Not true at all. ACE Zin Reston had kids in Math classes 1-3 grade levels ahead if they test into those levels.

My child just started in 9th at Flint Hill. All students take a placement exam for math. The majority of kids coming from Flint Hill middle are placing into Algebra 2 or Algebra 2 honors for 9th. My child is in geometry and there is an honors geometry track. There is one freshman in calculus. So I think Flint Hill could work for people seeking advanced math.

Definitely doesn't. My older kid at a Christian private is on the exact same math track that she would have been in public, which is advanced, and she's not the only one in her grade. Only difference is our private starts differentiation in 5th instead of 3rd like the public. But our public school district just erased the majority of the differentiation in 3rd and 4th between last year and this year. And our private school curriculum is about half a grade ahead of gen ed math in our public district, so now the private ends up ahead for my younger kid.

Are you sure you didn't mean thoroughly *not* neurotypical?
