It’s actually not that bad if the activity doesn’t any earlier than about 7:15 or 7:30 and isn’t more than a couple times per week. But I don’t see how this would work for things that depends on contracts with outside entities or permits from the county. How can orgs be sure they will get access to fields/pools/spaces at that hour? There may be a reason those places are available in afternoons/evenings but not mornings. It’s hard enough to figure out field space for example. Having to shift the times is going to be a huge mess. |
| If start times for middle school move later than 8 (possibly 830) it will decimate my department at my school. So many of them can't make the later start time work with their commute. |
That would be the worst possible option. Many school activities like sports and theater performances begin when the bell rings at 3 ish and don't finish until 10:30 or 11:00 PM The middle school schedule needs to be left where it is, or swapped with elementary school if FCPS feels a need to do a pointless, performative change. High school schedules should not be touched. Middle school needs to suck it up. That age is unpleasant to parent whether you are waking them at 6AM or noon. Midfle school s 2 years. Just leave it alone. |
Um, no. That is a terrible idea. Leave the middle school schedule alone. |
Sorry, but that is a terrible idea. And not nearly enough time for rehearsals or sports practices. You would be cutting rehearsals and practice times by 2 hours, over a 65% decreas in time. Not to mention, high school kids SWEAT when they practice, much more than little league or elementary school soccer. You would have hundreds, if not close to 1000 students needing to shower before school every morning. They also need to eat a ton of food after sports practice, especially since they won't be able to eat breakfast before practice. There is not enough time or suffient cafeteria food to feed the sports teams between a morning practice and school. |
We don't want it. FCPS high schools have the ideal schedule for sports and rehearsals, as well as academics. The middle schoolers need to just deal with the early schedule. It is just 2 years |
Sports practice and play practice before school would have to take the same hours that the before school swim teams use, which means starting at 5AM. This isn't little league or middle school running club where 1 hour suffices. It is such a terrible idea, that Reid and Co might just jump on it. Ruin the schedule for the only groups where classes, sports, and activities matter, to make 2 years worth of middle school students potentially less irritable and sassy in the mornings. |
7:30 AM means sports and show rehearsals are only getting about 1/3 of their normal practice time. |
Middle school teachers need to organize and speak up. Reid is hell bent on destroying the schedule for everyone to appease a tiny handful of middle school parents. |
|
| This makes sense. |
| Having a child that is new to the middle school schedule, I would like to say that it's been fine. And, it's only 2 years. Dc is already looking forward to getting to sleep in for HS |
Reid should just do a big Oprah-style reveal show and announce everything on one day- announce the boundary changes, announce the start time changes announce the Hayfield report, announce the Kyle investigation, announce actual plans for KAA, announce names of her new security, announce 8th grade algebra mandatory for all, announce it all and have it all start on same day and let chips fall where mat. |
Most pretty much “try it” for all of elementary school. Kids getting done after 4 pm already leaves evenings crammed. Add in the increase in homework, sports and friends and the increasingly rare afterschool job… no thanks. |
This funny. I would buy a ticket for that show. |
