Can a lawyer help me reduce my child support obligation?

Your kids will come first. You'll have to find a way to increase your income, but then she could go after that too

Are your kids in daycare? Or of they require any kind of aftercare?

If there are guidelines, not likely there is much you can do. But seriously, $20k support per year for your kids isn’t a lot. A judge isn’t going to have sympathy. Your first duty is to support your kids. Do you need a car? Can you get cheaper rent?

Adjust your expenses. A judge is going to go by the calculator. Your expenses are determined by you, fix it.

NYC child support calculator. 2 kids equal 25% of your gross income or $2025 per month/24,300 annually. You’re paying 84% of that amount $1700 month/20,400 annually.

Technically you have the kids 40% of the month but the overall support agreement is usually based on the needs of the children.

Rent, car payment, credit card payment, food, gas, etc. they add up when $1700 is taken out before you even pay your own bills.

Newsflash: your kids' bills ARE your own

NY is insane. Sorry OP. Move to a cheaper apartment.

Sorry, Divorce sucks, for everyone.
You get half the assets and twice the expenses.
It’s always cheaper to have a shared household instead of 2

Some city taxes are taken out of the gross income. Not federal or state though. It’s more complicated than just a straight calculation.

Cut your expenses. You owe what you owe for your kids. Don’t be schmuck

He has a car payment, but didn't list parking so I'm guessing he does not live in NYC.

Father of the Year here. Jeez dude, take care of your children.

$1700 is a deal. You need to lower your other bills. What’s your car payment? What’s your rent/mortgage? Lay out your other bills and I’ll explain what you should cut before you cut the money your children need to live.

$1,700 is less than $200/week per kid. What do you think raising a child costs?

I think you should change jobs to something that allows for 50/50.
