Bathrooms closed already in HS?

Seriously? High school students can't use bathroom for the whole day?

Certain bathrooms of building are closed, not all. Ex, if a bathroom on east side is closed, students will need to go to opposite side of building to find an open bathroom- so not a quick in and out across from their classroom. Some schools close main hall bathrooms too if not by classrooms (assume bc no one to monitor).

Feel especially bad for girls who at this age are still figuring out their cycles.

So they are missing more instructional times (you know after they wait in 40 minute metal detector lines) trying to find a bathroom and the teachers probably think they are goofing off. Talk about an exhausting day for kids in FCPS.

I read this “Juul Settlement Funds: Virginia received approximately $16.61 million from the Juul Labs settlement.
Districts like Fairfax County Public Schools have already used their portion (roughly $3.2 million) specifically to install vape detectors in high school restrooms.” What FCPS schools have vape detectors on bathrooms?

At McLean HS, the usual reason for bathrooms to be closed are the recurring plumbing problems caused by a poorly maintained old building. FCPS claims to have worked on them over last summer, but reports indicate they still recur from time to time.

Again, this is a building plumbing defect issue, not student caused.

HS teacher here. The bathrooms in my wing of the building have only been closed this year for flooding. Like when one of the toilets is overflowing. Sometimes it’s been a bad toilet with plumbing issues. Other times it’s been students stuffing it with things to make it overflow. Both have happened multiple times in both bathrooms.

They are closed during the ten-ten timeframe

This is the issue.

Parents, many of your kids, not just the "bad " kids but also athletes, band geeks, smart kids, student government leaders, and more, vape at school.

They are ruining it for the rest of our kids.

Too bad that is on admin. The other kids need to use the bathroom.

Oh gosh, it's you again.

Funny thing is kids could put the end to this stuff real quickly if they, uh, coordinated depositing material because of bathroom closures.

use the gender neutral bathroom.

Teacher here - our bathrooms are frequently closed, either all of them during certain times of the day or some of them. It is determined by admin, not us. We don't even have keys to open them if we want to.

Vaping was not the issue.

Our private high school has vape detectors in the bathrooms. Maybe that would be a better investment than metal detectors?
But those could cause a fire alarm, right?
