For those of you that took the fork-Vera

While I doubt it will happen, I’d love to see a drp 3.0 + Vera next year.

Well lucky you. The USDA plans on relocating over half of DC area employees to 5 hubs located in the middle of the country. There won’t be RIFs but if you don’t move, you will have to resign.

I’ll take it! I don’t work for usda but would happily move out of the dc area- I’m a native.
What has this place become?!

Wow! What a great opportunity! Enjoy the new state.

I'm curious what you mean by "medically retired". Was he not eligible for VERA (not enough years in service)? I know someone with a disability that is 54 and they took the fork and VERA. Was there some other, better option besides VERA that they could have taken?

You’re naive. Doge is still very much around and active. New security cameras just popped up all over my building. Flexibilities like aws and breaks are being taken away from Feds. They’re an active menace-watching, waiting and will RIF again as soon as they can.

So, when they are “done” what happens? They get hired into permanent fed jobs without going through the USAJobs recess? Or Elon comes back to round up his sheep and find them all new jobs in Austin?

I am anxious because of course he needs a job. But he's paralyzed, depressed, and despairing.

So no. No job.

I am sorry for you. I hope he gets the

He wasn't able to retire?

My husband was also DSR'd and even as a GS-15, his annuity would've been pretty small, especially as he planned to keep carrying the health insurance. There is no way at 50, he could've retired from employment; we have 12th and 10th graders.

He started job hunting as soon as he was placed on administrative leave, applied for 62 jobs, had 8 interviews, and finally landed a job a couple of weeks ago. That was 7 months' of job hunting.

You will get a DSR so effectively a forced VERA 3.0.

Congratulations on his getting a job - I hope it is a better place than where he left

there is a medical retirement option- he has some health issues and qualified. He gets 40% of his salary until he is 62 and then he gets full retirement. the 8 years to get to 62 counts as service time so he will retire with over 30 years. we ran the numbers with a financial person and the medical retirement made more sense. He can get another job (as long as he doesn't make more than he made full time) but for right now he is enjoying the downtime. We hired a lawyer to do the paperwork. it was money well spent.
