Prices: Mom’s Organic vs Whole Foods

I’m curious why more people don’t go to Moms. It’s pretty exceptional in terms of quality and value. Is it the name? Not enough locations to build traction? Lack of prepared foods?

I’d never heard of it until a friend suggested it. Maybe it needs more advertising.

It’s just not convenient for me. I have Harris Teeter, Trader Joes and Lidl in walking distance and Giant a 5 minute drive away. I’m not driving 20+ minutes for Wegmans or Moms.

If you live in upper NW the new store in Van Ness next to the SB is a dream. Not crowded, easy to park. I love it. Hopefully that will change for them, but sooo easy.

OP here. Great discussion. I feel Moms is definitely cheaper. Some vitamins are more expensive than amazon but I just order these from other online vendors.

Agree that it’s the best produce outside if a farmers market. Same for meat.

Mom’s employees seem happier too. I don’t get the feeling the WF employees are as happy. They seem more hassled and rushed.

I don’t know if Moms participates in grocery delivery schemes. I like that there are other people buying their own food. It has more if a community feeling.

We realized we didn’t know what a good thing we had until we spent time in another part of the country without it.

I switch between Whole Foods, Mom’s, and Costco. Peaches and kiwis are currently superior at Costco. I get good zucchini and beets at Mom’s. Whole Foods has decent eggplants.

Depends on the items what is cheaper. I used to go to Whole Foods alot but think the quality is not what it was, at least for produce. MOM's produce is much better. I now seems to have my TJs items, my Moms items and then I make a trip to Wegmans or Safeway every once in awhile. Fish at Wegmans is better but not cheap.

Plenty of biases on here. People don't want to support billionaires therefore WF is terrible and Moms is better.

Not really. I shop at both. WF produce is excellent and consistent at the two near me. Moms is fine but slightly more expensive. I like the bread at Moms better.

Also need to point out WF prime is excellent value and more than pays for the prime membership. Best meat is not at either, though they are fine. WF also has a much bigger range of food and selection. I can't get my favorite oat milk or skyr at Mom's.

We were really shocked by the prices! We were so happy to get home to Moms where most things were a dollar or two less.

We can’t understand why our local Moms isn’t packed. It can’t be beat for quality and price.

MOMs is way more expensive than Whole Foods. Even before Whole Foods was bought by Amazon and turned to crap, they were less expensive then MOMs. I don't know how MOMS stays in business honestly. You'd have to be not only rich but stupid to shop there for your normal groceries.

Let me help you out here. MOMs has the highest quality, in every category, across the board of any grocery* store. That’s why they’re opening new stores throughout the region, the polar opposite of “going out of business”

Apart from high wealth people, MOMs get shoppers like MC me who care so much about what goes in my mouth that I tighten my belt elsewhere to make quality food happen.

Admit this would be hard to impossible with a family of 5-6. That’s on you guys though, for producing kids beyond world replacement level. Aldi and its chemicals exists for a reason

Agree with everyone else that its quality pulled way ahead of WF for good once Bozos took over

Entirely subjective with no factual evidence to back you up. I go to Mom's and Whole Foods all the time. Claims that produce is better at one than the other is laughable. The rest of your post only shows why we shouldn't pay attention to anything you say and fits the perception the real reason people like you are praising Moms is for reasons little to do with food itself.

Lidl has some organic items, not a lot of variety, but wildly lower cost than other places.
