Prices: Mom’s Organic vs Whole Foods

Anonymous
For summer vacation in New England we were hostage to a Whole Foods and we also shopped at one for a rest stop in NJ. We had several duds from Whole Foods - old chocolate where it gets white and dry. Fermented yogurr that was off. Mealy peaches.

We were really shocked by the prices! We were so happy to get home to Moms where most things were a dollar or two less.

We can’t understand why our local Moms isn’t packed. It can’t be beat for quality and price.

Moms can be more expensive for certain things (meat, which is generally higher quality), strawberries (up to $3 difference per box).

^ also, the bread offering at my Mom’s Organic Market is underwhelming.

We used to be WF regulars but after Amazon purchase the quality has really dropped.

We have a mix: meats and some staples veggies like potatoes and berries from TJ or Costco
Greens and other fruit and eggs from Moms
Bread from Wegman or Lidl or Costco

Moms is far better than WF. Go today and look at the orange peppers at WF they will be wrinkled and soft. Moms always has crisp fresh produce that far exceeds the quality of WF. The problem with Moms is that they frequently have out of stock items so it makes regular weekly trips u reliable. They don’t have the scale to negotiate with suppliers in the same way as larger grocery stores.

MOMs is way more expensive than Whole Foods. Even before Whole Foods was bought by Amazon and turned to crap, they were less expensive then MOMs. I don't know how MOMS stays in business honestly. You'd have to be not only rich but stupid to shop there for your normal groceries.

Whole Foods is so sad. The produce is terrible. Amazon Fresh and even Trader Joe's produce is better.

Farmer's markets cannot be beat around here.

Our MOM’s is always busy. And clearly they’re doing something right as they’ve opened a few new stores. Their produce is the best I’ve seen outside of a farmer’s market.

It’s absolutely not cheaper. It’s the same or less because I’ve been price checking everything. The produce is exponentially better. Some of also care about not supporting billionaires.
