| It's better than a lot of new builds, but still has the cookie cutter McMansion look. I always wonder wtf I would do with 7000+ square feet. |

Brendan O'Neil is the quintessential colonial developer

I love being a recent immigrant nouveau rich. Sure beats being a broke-ass non-immigrant. -> Though what a waste of the many privileges these non-immigrants have - being an American citizen, having family and roots, being White/Christian, being educated here, being fluent in English, having the right accent, having years of residency to build up wealth, having a community, having a home town. But, they squander every thing and all benefits being an American brings to them. Instead these poverty struck, loser people are cribbing about the recent immigrant nouveau rich! LOL. |
“Cribbing” gives your origin away. Go back to your roots and values. |
I like your Sailer example, except for the dormers. Your Focal Point example is not balanced at all though, it's a mish-mash. I actually think the OP house would have been fine (dormers and all) if they had done anything except a stone triangle on the side. Maybe more of a sunroom look, like this: https://www.ideaspacead.com/portfolio/maplewood-colonial-addition |

On nouveau riche, it's not the riche part. You can have money and have restraint.
On the riche part, as long as you haven't donated land the size of Pennsylvania you are not riche. People have lost perspective nowadays. |
| Everything is “Giant White House” now. |
Bullshit. All of the gen Z and millennial viral parenting accounts are modern McMansions and million+ dollar modern farm houses. The poor influencers film from their cars when they don't have a big mansion to show off. All of the influencers with access to a mansion film in it to show it off. |
Most non-immigrants with the privileges you describe are very happy to live in nice houses and to have neighbors who are immigrants living in equally nice houses. There's a sub-set of non-immigrants who regularly reveal their nativist tendencies by cloaking it in aesthetics. Some are downwardly mobile, while others are not, but the common thread is that they are insecure. They may have spent a lot of money on older houses in close-in locations, and want validation and praise for their lifestyle choices. When that isn't forthcoming (because, for example, people aren't necessarily impressed by old houses in areas like Arlington), they lash out by attacking immigrants and the "nouveau rich" (sic). |
Ahem, cough cough, perhaps they appreciate quality and location? It's hard to approach the quality of craftsmanship and materials of a higher end house built in the 1900-1930 period. I grew up in such a neighborhood and it's apples and oranges compared to your suburban mcmansion. However, I will say a fair number of my old childhood friends now live in newer suburban houses while many buyers in my childhood neighborhood are people of recent immigrant heritage. So it's not all wasps these days. Just people who appreciate and want to own quality. |
| I would not live in either regardless of my income. Mc's have never been attractive to me and Colonial is just colonial. |
Be a member of the middle of the middle class! |
Both of these comments aren’t terribly impressive. The first is an example of a short, racist, disdainful comment that stereotypes. The second responds in kind with an additional layer of insecurity. Both are myopic and show limited cognitive ability. |
| I always liked that block. A lot of beautiful homes on it. |
I like the back of those far better than the front. |
