Pre service week

We do. I wish we could combine that with back to school night since most parents come to see the classroom but not to back to school night.

Are you saying hold back to school night/open house at the same time -- in the evening that Wed or Thurs of preservice week? But then most students won't come with their parents if it's held in the evening.

SDTs love to break the ice. Wish they would treat us as professionals. 🧊

I'm a parent, not a teacher. My kid's school is having open house on the Friday before.

So that must be ES. Do MS and HS also have open house the few days before first day of school?

No. They used to have a half day orientation for students only the Thursday before school started, but now that is being replaced by the transition day Monday.

Do they provide breakfast each day?

NP here. I work at a title I school so we don’t get something every day. A church donates lunch 1-2 times over the week. They are so nice.

I’m looking forward to seeing my work friends!

Do you see them over the summer before preservice week?

Nope. I worked my summer job and volunteered for swim meets and did one week at the beach. We keep up on social media but don’t see each other during the summer.

Do you think that professionals in every other office job *don't* have to do ice breaker activities at least once a year?

As a new hire, I kind of like the icebreakers because I get to learn something, albeit something trivial, about my new coworkers. Ask me again after like year 10 and maybe my attitude towards them will change.

It won't if you're a good sport. More than a decade in and I still think they're great for building community. Welcome!

I look forward to seeing colleagues, meeting kids and families but hate the rest of it. I do feel lucky to be at a school that gives a lot of time for class set up. In prior schools, we'd be lucky to get an hour at two total, which means the coming in early and staying late crap started immediately.

Or try after year 1

Setting up my classroom. I can’t focus on anything else until that is done. Some years, I show up a couple days early and get it all set up. I am not a Pinterest teacher, but I have to pack up every single thing in June and unpack it in late August.

I have New Educator Orientation on Monday so I'm getting a week head start. As for preservice I am looking forward to meeting all my new coworkers.

Welcome to MCPS.

Watch how much time you spend here in the mirror verse on DCUM. It can be morale destroying as a new teacher.

Where do you store your packed materials over the summer if you know you are coming back to the same school but not same classroom?

Not like they do in the teaching field!

Thank you. I mainly am on here because i want to talk HS sports. Thats why i started that thread a few days back. I don’t worry myself with most of the negative posters here because i am already used to being judged unfairly simply because i have tattoos on my hands, neck, and head. I just let them think what they want and do my job
