Would you care to expand upon that? I'm genuinely curious why you are happy Scouts will now be charged to use a space that will otherwise just sit empty.

DP. My scouts experience as a kid was very pushy Christian based. I don't know what it is like here because I didn't even consider it for my own kids. Definitely don't want public tax money used to support that kind of indoctrination. They can pay the fee like everyone else.

Possible fallout from Reid pushing “full confidence” agenda for Overton/Hayfield and again the kids get brunt of all punishment. If recall, Overton ran/runs non-profit (Playmakers Elite Athletic Training) that was said to be using school equipment/facilities. So maybe this is more cleanup that takes out scouts at same time- never mind Overton as a coach long gone from FCPS (his brother still shows as instructional asst at Hayfield).

But it may not otherwise stay empty. Also, custodians need to clean up the space. I think it’s fair to charge building use fees.

It's kind of hard to answer that because they charge per use. There's a rental fee, a cleaning fee, then an additional fee to have a staff member there to supervise if your group is over 35 people.

I did the math for my Troop and estimated it to be somewhere between $7,500 and $8,000 for us to use the space we've used in the past.

That's just an outrageous amount to ask a non-profit youth organization to pay. We'll just go somewhere else.

So get 12 troops to pay it (which they won’t be able to afford) and could pay for 1 of the 4 personal security guards Reid is wanting. Who cares about community, let’s get those guards!

You’ll be horrified to know then that churches use schools too

Yep, the circus or other paying customers could come to town and want to use space the Scouts and other squatters have been monopolizing free of charge.

Yeah no it's not even a little bit like that here. Are you sure you weren't part of an organization that wasn't Scouting America or Girl Scouts?

FCPS doesn't make it particularly easy for them to do so, however. Other districts are definitely more "religious groups can hold services here on weekends" friendly.

Yeah, because we don't want to encourage community groups that are kid focused and help kids grow into good citizens and neighbors, now do we?

Next lets make rec sports more expensive too. Pay to play everything - that's equity for you!

This is ridiculous, and I'm a mom of girls who are now young women. They should get the space for free. FCPS used to charge $200 for after school craft classes, and it provides no in-school sports at the grade school level. You have to be rich to have a kid doing activities in that district. We weren't rich. Our kids just played outside after school in the neighborhood with the other kids who couldn't afford camps and ECs, either. The whole system there felt exclusionary, but yet the taxes were insane to "fund the schools".

they should have to pay. Soccer teams pay for fieldspace. Why should scouts get it for free?
