No GDS students going to Harvard this year?

Your kids are talking about this, OP? And you are posting it here.

Why is your family so interested in a school your kids don’t even attend?

I suspect the top students at GDS didn't bother applying to Harvard. It isn't nearly as desirable for 18 year olds today.

Snort. If you believe that, I've got a bridge to sell you.

That was legit the funniest thing I read on the internet today.

Doesn't GDS report its admissions for each graduating class? This DCUM forum can be full of garbage misinformation. I wouldn't believe this from some anonymous internet troll looking to stir the pot.

Lol Harvard’s yield is over 80 percent. The probability that “several” were accepted is very very low. Indeed the probability that one was is less than 20 percent.

I agree with PP you are responding to. There are likely Harvard admits who decided to go elsewhere - especially given all the current Trump drama there. And usually such kids are accepted to other outstanding options - it's not like the 20% are slumming it.

The recent years, the cohorts of 5-6 Harvard admits were composed almost entirely of top students who had parents who were VIPs in their respective fields. Most were legacies as well.

When will DCUM learn? It's not the high school that gets kids into the very top schools. It's what the kids bring to the high school. These kids would get into Harvard from any high school in America.

These numbers fluctuate year to year. And, if going by Insta posts, not everyone posts. I know of Harvard admits from Big 3 who never posted.

Not to mention, often the top Ivy admits from places like Sidwell, Cathedral schools, GDS etc are legacy. Among those legacy admits, some are really bright students with grades/rigor - who nonetheless are still getting a legacy leap frog over even more accomplished unhooked classmates....and then there are the legacy admits whose records are not even close to being in the ballpark for competitiveness but will still likely do just fine. The level of competition to get in far outpaces the level needed to get through these Ivy schools. Honestly - it's not worth spending your time on this.

Smart kids will do great wherever they go.

There are over 2000 private high schools and over 20000 public high schools in the US, plus who knows how many internationally.

How many matriculants at Harvard would you expect any top U.S. private school to have when the incoming class size is around 1600 students?

More than this. These schools are supposed to be the best in the DMV.

Give us a number. What should it be? It's like you don't know that there are also dozens of highly regarded privates in NYC, LA, Boston, and other top cities plus boarding schools.

OP could be entirely correct on the numbers but the real issue is why are they posting? And if they are not a shyte-stirring troll, why is their whole family spending so much time on this?

Either way, OP is odd.

I guess GDS did nit have the right parent in this class. Harvard is about connections.

+1 Neither GDS nor Harvard are at the top of anyone’s list right now.

The best schools in the DMV are the public magnet schools (ex: TJ, Blair) where kids actually get in on merit. Those are the ones winning the national competitions, not GDS or any other private for that matter.

There seems to be a shift in Harvard admissions. MCPS magnets historically have done pretty well. RMIB used to have anywhere from one to five admits, and this year had none. Blair only had one. My impression is that the focus is more on FGLI and a certain number (not excessive) of private admits who are probably hooked. Little interest in the middle class, super high stats kids for whatever reason.
