Have you or your student interacted or met any AOs that are Asian?

Exactly!

It’s like men who complain about the feminization of K-12 education because most of the teachers are women. Uh, you’re welcome to step right up into this underpaid job!

The vast majority are white women, but there are some men too and some (far fewer) Black and/or latino/latina. But zero asians work as AOs and read applications. I wonder if this unconsciously impacts the "holistic" application process.

There are many Asian AO in Asia. Try it!

As many have mentioned, Asians are fairly represented in Admission Offices. Stop spreading the misinformation that there is no Asian AOs. And for a few of you, stop self-loathing! It's disgusting!

My DD has also noted that she's seen very few (maybe 1?) asian AO during her college search for the schools she has been targeting primarily in Northeast and some west coast.

Some asian representation would be nice given that a human reaction to essays and applications are subjective but it is what it is.

You have a bigger problem if your DS thinks that his limited observations account for the universe of AOs. I'm an alum of two Ivies, and both had Asian AOs on staff while I was in undergrad/grad. Teach your kid that his anecdotes are not data.

+1 Stop spreading misinformation OP.

+1 it's definitely food for thought and not too surprising unfortunately. lots of defensive reactions to this thread unfortunately aren't too surprising either.

Just look up Admission Offices' website and take a look. NE and CA schools have many Asian AOs. Lies like this are so easy to spot.

We knew a female AO at UCLA who was our neighbor. I think she still works there but will be one of several.

I can name a few schools in NE where we encountered Asian AOs. Princeton, MIT off the top of my head.

based on anecdotal info from this thread it seems like there's 1 or 2 here or there. in my student's search she hasn't come across any but we've only been looking at 30-ish schools. but ofc it matters which schools you are targeting.

but 1 or 2 AOs here or there is definitely not many.

most AOs are white. majority are female. these are just facts. food for thought as PP noted.

Most Asian Americans live in California, so that makes sense.

My AO for Georgetown Law back in the 90s was an Asian female. Just sayin’.

There are a few, but you are correct, whenever a group is underrepresented in a gatekeeping profession, there is bound to be conscious or unconscious discrimination.

If you go on youtube and look up videos featuring college AOs, you will find many Asian Americans. Hope this helps.
