Yes it's typical.

Some clubs collect everything upfront including tournaments and coach's travel expenses. In these cases they likely over budget to cover unseen price changes or event changes.

Others they collect a club fee that is the same for all and then team fees that cover tournaments/coach's expenses as not all teams do the same tournaments or number of events. Some only do local, others more travel requiring the coach to have travel expenses covered by the team. In this case what is not used up gets returned to the family. You only pay for what you use but it is a bigger pain having to collect it separately.

Mls Next club- our upfront fee includes all predetermined expenses for the year (except uniforms). If the team decides to add on any extra tournaments, they split that cost.

SYC coaches makes up their own rules. The coaches decide on which tournaments s/he wants the team to participate in.

Our club changed last year to separate out team fees for tournaments. That’s generally more fair bc one team might do 6 tournaments including two on the road while another might do 4 local tournaments—would be unfair to have the latter subsidize the former. Team manager or treasurer calculates fall and spring team fees based on actual costs, excess to team party or returned.

Returned? Our team from last year had a major overage. No team party was given or any money returned to the players.

It's just not travel for tournaments...it's travel for MLS league games and MLS events too. Like ECNL, you'll travel quite a bit. In addition, there are VEO costs. These expenses add up quickly for top teams in top leagues. It's shocking at first if you're new but you'll get used to it..most of us parents in MLS and ECNL have come to accept the price.

Shouldn't the travel to MLS league be a part of the club fee? My club fee is $2,900 and then team fees are projected to be another $1,000. We have friends who play for neighboring clubs, and their club fee is all inclusive.

Dang bruh I’m really hating this country’s youth soccer landscape. I’m so blessed that due to my DS “talent” we don’t pay anything but it’s despicable each year becomes more and more expensive and the level of coaching it’s becoming more and more mediocre.

NVA/Loudoun. and the shop is down the street so you have to order through that store and buy the entire kit.

You need to contact the club directors as the team is not allowed to keep that if you left the club. If you are still on the team, it's likely that it's being rolled to next year but they should always give you the option to return it at the end of the year. If rolled into next year it should be reduced from your overall team fees. Check with the team manager if you are still on the team.

Because it's not the team's money. The team fees are to cover events/fees that it participates in. Parents pay in to cover those. If there is money left over it needs to be returned. Just as if it were short, they would come asking parents for the balance.
