Pulling 8th Grader (Longfellow) out for week and half before winter recess

The Teachers do not have to give your child work in advance. Your child will miss quizzes and/or tests. Your child will miss homework.

Why would do this when your child is taking 2 HS level classes? You have 2 weeks of vacation. You are setting your kid up for a rough ending to the second quarter and creating a ton of extra work for his teachers.

My kid missed three days of middle school (Lake Braddock) for a planned trip. My child had to go to each teacher and get them to sign an absence form, then turn it in to the front office. We could've just called in sick each day, but we wanted to keep things honest.

Do it. Once they get to HS they can barely manage to skip a single day. Then they are gone.

They need to reach out to teachers and get everything organized and be prepared to bring their computer and stay on top of lessons.

YOLO, my friend.

We have a friend who is missing a week of school and LBSS said they were going to unenroll him. Missing school is not taken lightly there.

This kid has 2 high school classes. It’s already time for them not to miss.

They have 16 days off for winter break!

Why do you need so much time?

Reach out to the school and his counselor. We’re doing something similar with our 10th grader, and I’ve already gotten approval and a plan for working with his teachers to complete assignments and tests. The burden is on my kid to get his work done, but this is a trip he really wants to take with me and the only time we can do it is the last week of the quarter. Obviously a different school, but the admin was very understanding and eager to work with us. I think it really depends on (1) the reason you’re pulling your kid and (2) how good of a student your kid is. If you have a good reason and a good student, they don’t really care. Just make sure your son is on board and can get his work done. I had a couple of very serious talks with my son before I even agreed to approach the school.

I would also keep in mind that the two weeks before winter break are when concerts are often scheduled, as well as other capstone-type things.

Dp

Due to summer being to short due to 38 days off in the school year?

You just had 9 weeks off this summer. You will have 2 weeks off at the end of the year. This is poor planning, Op. If everyone did this, it makes teaching a disaster. Respect your teachers and education more.

It's fine just make sure the teachers give the makeup work and stay on top of them, they have a lot of students (too many) and forget things over break

If it's overseas, Schoology and Mathspace won't work.

This and a week and a half is a lot! My kid would never want to do it and he hates school!

Is this trolling? The teachers are not required to "give makeup work" or give any work ahead of time. Its not an excused absense.

This is a lot of makeup assessments as soon as they return in January.
