Food in college is better everywhere than when you were in college, mommy. Too bad your kid doesn’t have stats for the northeast colleges.

I grew up in the PNW and live in DC, would move back in a heartbeat. Weather beats DC’s oppressive heat/humidity/thunderstorms summers with endless mosquitos and the cold winters. And I’m far more claustrophobic here. I miss being able to spend the majority of the year outside with mountains, trees and rivers/lakes just minutes away. Unfortunately my husband is a Fed so I’m stuck here longer.

Forgot to mention the down to earth and kind people and sane drivers (majority at least).

It’s not the weather that is the major problem with the PNW, it’s the insufferable people.

People totally underestimate the weather. most visit campuses during summer. Your kid will be starting college just as weather is getting shitty and they will be in college until the end of the shitty weather. The schools in this area should start in May and end 9-10 months later, but they don't. It is depressing the first year some get used to it by year2 others don't.

It all depends where you are from I think. Don't get me wrong, the PNW is absolutely beautiful. Went to graduate school out there. But the winters can be very gray, rough with snow and it does rain a lot. I actually like the sun, heat and humidity (within limits) and for me nothing is like the eastern seaboard.

Nope, that's not true unless you really enjoy misting and depressing rain for majority of the year. No sunshine. Do agree with ya on DC's humidity but at least most college students do not stick around in DC over summers. Ideal is DC for 9 months and PNW for 3 months.

Mist and depressing rain is the best. My skin was never so soft and each sunny day was a wonderful surprise and opportunity.

Both were pretty but too small and one kid said they both had a weird vibe. Kids loved Univ of Oregon, Univ of Washington, Puget Sound and Gonzaga. Surprised most by Oregon State.

I went to Gonzaga. Completely different vibe in Spokane than UW.
