Car insurance covers more than collision. If a tree branch falls on the car or it gets flooded or gets burnt, comprehensive part of car insurance covers it. If OPs car insurance determines the fault was with the neighbor they can pursue reimbursement from the neighbor but the OP doesn’t have to get involved in all this unpleasantness |
| OP here. Neighbor last night made clear they want to pay out of pocket for damages and not involve insurance at all. So I'm getting quotes from our garage. I'm also happy with this approach. |
Of course it does! Where’d you hear that nonsense? |
Seems like the neighborly thing to try. Hope this works out for you! |
Disagree. If it's a no fault state it definitely goes up. I think this would fall under homeowner's insurance. Who is paying to fix the fence? |
Not my experience. We’ve been hit by others, not our fault, and their insurance paid. (We even used OUR insurance to help facilitate) and our rates did not increase each time. |
| It's your neighbors HO insurance for this and there is a reason they want to pay OOP. Will they also pay for a rental vehicle while yours is in the shop? |
