What bug bite could be causing open sores?

It's the scratching of the bites. Not the bites.

Nickel size sores? No way this is chiggers. Go to ped. These are large sores and could be a MRSA situation.

Both of my kids had nickel sized sores on their legs last summer and it was impetigo. It was gross. One cleared up on its own, one turned into huge blisters and needed antibiotics.

+1 for possibly MRSA. A lot of people carry MRSA and the scratched bug bites were probably the entry point. If a bug bite alone (and not the scratching) caused an open sore, then that would be even worse...

OP here… they quickly were able to diagnose it as impetigo. Since it was all
Over their bodies and they’ve had it for a few days she prescribed both topical ointment and oral antibiotics. Said it could take 1-2 weeks to clear up. Towels and sheets need to be washed daily.
Luckily they are not sick with any other symptoms and don’t seem uncomfortable.
Thanks for all your concern!!!

My son had this and it appeared overnight on his knuckle. He was at an indoor camp but nurse suspected bug bites.

One of my friends had the same looking ugly open sore. She saw a strange bug in her house then next morning woke up with a big open sore on her hand.

Impetigo is usually staph. Keep an eye on it and wash linens with bleach.
