Both my kids have open sores on their legs arms and back. Nickel sized. We are in upstate NY at a lake every day. My sister left today and just
Texted her daughter has them too. None of the adults have them. I didn’t think much over the last couple days just figured they were mosquito bites they had scratched but it’s def not that. I’m pretty sure I noticed it on our friends kids legs as well. Will go to urgent care in morning but thought I’d check here first as now I won’t sleep!! None of the kids are sick with fevers or any other symptoms. |

OP here…
Now I’m thinking maybe it could be some kind of contagious rash?? |
| If they all have it, I’d suspect a rash. Otherwise, my ds got similar at a sleep away camp. I was so frustrated to pick him up after 2 weeks to find his legs and arms covered in those. The camp nurse told him he was picking at mosquito bites. He swore he was not and would wake up with more each day. I took him to urgent care in the town by the camp in NC, and they said it was chiggers and possibly an allergy to them? They gave him an antibiotic cream as well as liquid Benadryl for a few days. It took 2 weeks to get rid of them |
| Hand foot mouth! |
| I would guess chiggers. |
|
OP here… from all my googling yes it does sound like chigger bites although they are not pimples/bumps. They are open sores.
Also thinking impetigo. |
| Look at black fly bites Adirondacks. Could it be that? |
| Op— good luck to you and please let us know what they say at Urgent Care |
| Tiny parasitic larvae in the lake that burrow in skin. They die very quickly but trigger an allergic reaction. My DD had this recently, treated with a prescription cream and cleared up quickly. Imperative to wash with soap and water soon after swimming, then not a problem. |

Can be rash or blisters that can become open wounds. Usually concentrated on legs in particular. |
| Guessing impetigo from scratching too much after a bite, but do keep us posted, enquiring minds want to know! |
| Spider. |
| Impetigo is pretty distinctive--yellowish, crusting, more patchy than nickel shaped. Sounds more like lake parasites. |
| My kid just had this and it was MRSA. Go see a doctor asap. I thought the first one was a nasty bite but it kept spreading — nickel or quarter sized open sores. |
| It’s the lake water plus bug bites of some kind. Go to the ped with this. |
