What happens to disbarred lawyers?

He handled my case successfully, but was disbarred afterwards for grossly neglecting another client’s case. It was a mess. He killed himself a year later.

There are many roles which benefit from a legal education and background but which don't involve the practice of law. That said, misconduct severe enough to result in being disbarred is likely disqualifying for many other jobs, too.

I knew a lawyer who abruptly went down some pseduolaw rabbit hole and moved to another state and engaged in unauthorized practice there. Ended up getting sued by a client for unauthorized practice and was ordered to pay punitive damages to a client. She's now being disciplined by her home bar and probably will be disbarred.

No. You have to be barred and in good standing to do document review in most jurisdictions.

Among other things this lawyer was also evicted from her apartment last year. I'm not sure if a landlord can evict when UAP is occurring on premises. Could have been non-payment of rent or another violation of the rental agreement as well.

In most jurisdictions, UAP is a crime. Landlords are clearly able to evict when a tenant uses the property for an illegal activity.

I don’t think you need to be a member of a bar to practice in front of the EEOC.

I hired one to a legal job in the federal government. Didn't know she was disbarred because HR only gives resumes and I'm not happy about that. We aren't practicing lawyers and she wasn't required to be a lawyer, but I wish I had known. She was disbarred for abusing client funds (just stopped doing work, didn't show up). She is now doing the same things to me as well (not doing work). She never says she's a lawyer, but does tell people where she went to law school. She doesn't know that I know she was disbarred.
