If you have an accountant

When we both had W2s, typical house, investments, child care, etc., we just did turbotax. Now our situation is more complicated and we started using an accountant this year. He charged $750. We are in the midwest so I imagine he is cheaper than someone on the east coast. It was a bargain- he saved us over 8K by having us set up a SEP IRA.

We paid $4,595 last year to our accountant.

Thanks for the insight. I think we're probably paying what we should be paying, based on these responses!

Does anyone have any recommendations? Looking for an accountant who can help with both business and individual filings. I have a small business in DC and have to do quarterly filings.

You are without a doubt getting ripped off.

Our taxes are relatively simple, and the cost is about $1500 per year. We pay taxes quarterly, itemize deductions, and call for advice if things change (we need money for a big expenditure, a new job big raise, or job loss, etc).

You’re also getting ripped off.
