Favorite board games and why?

Forgot Labyrinth

Also, for young kids (early elementary), the Sleeping Queens card game is wonderful.

Ohh I used to LOVE playing Trouble as a kid…..I still do though unlike you I cannot stand how loud popping that bubble is! 🫨
Lol.

I also enjoy playing classics such as Monopoly + Life - - however these games tend to run a LONG time imo.

I also like the board game Clue .
Checkers is a lot of good fun too.

While UNO is not a board game > I always love a good game (or two!) especially after a good meal.

I love playing Battleship.

Sequence, Clue and Monopoly are favorites of ours. Sometimes we play Sorry. But our real favorites are Uno and Rummy which are cards.

Blank slate. You try to complete a word or phrase based on the clue on the card. Each player writes down a word and you get more points if you match with only 1 other player.

It’s relatively quick and can play with lots of players.

We like the card game sky Jo.
Friends introduced it to our kid and she asked us to buy it. Once you’ve played it once or twice it’s easy to figure out. Involved a little bit of strategy but not complicated like some games are. Card games are easy to take on trips.

My 3 favorites are

Rummikub
Bananagrams
SET

None of them are technically board games, but games you can apply with a few others

Not a board game, but the card game Five Crowns.

Pass the Pigs is fun.

I like all the old school word games - Scrabble, Boggle, Scattergories, Balderdash.

My kids like Blockus. One kid loves Monopoly but it takes so long!

For those who play Monopoly, do you play by official rules? Do you play until only one person owns everything?

Do you play UNO by official rules? Or do you play some variant using UNO cards?

Both games get house ruled so much it is hard to determine what is being recommended when someone recommends either game.

I like simple word games or trivia games like this. Any others?

I think it fair to say that when most people say “board games” they probably mean “tabletop games”. It’s like someone asking for a Kleenex when they mean facial tissue. Even the major board game site Board Game Geek includes card games. Would you seriously not call Boggle a board game when it doesn’t have a board just dice? Or dominoes? Carcassonne which is a tile laying game?

games can be played elsewhere too, not just on a table. Rug, car seat, grass, stairs, bed, etc.. How about "surface"top games?
