Nice gift-like birthday card for 12 yo grand-nephew?

It's right in the title. They want to send a very fancy $10 card. The parents won't let them send gift cards. Agree with the PP who said get him one that makes a lot of silly noise. At the drug store. You'll have to test them out which is embarrassing.

Don’t send clothes. They likely have enough, the kid is not going to appreciate it or remember it. They will open it and throw it in the drawers with their other clothes and outgrow it in six months.

Id give a kid joke book. Easy to mail. That’s a stocking stuffer that my kid appreciated @ that age

Joke book sounds interesting. Any ideas for specific ones. They are Californian. OP

OP save your $. The kids don’t know you and a random birthday card will be tossed out.

OP here. Some good card and joke ideas. Some seem a bit young. But I will keep at it.
TRUE we don't know each other. But I hadva great aunt I never met who sent me a bone china teacup and saucer every year. She was in her 80s I guess. I remember her name and have the cups.

Cards are different but I would like to have them have us in mind enough that someday we can meet. DH is estranged from his sister, their paternal grandmother.

OP again. I got the girl a card. I think zi need a card for the boy this year. Then next year branch out to joke books, fact books, etc for both. Sound reasonable?

My kid wouldn't want a joke book at that age. They'd be thrilled for a hoodie or something else.

They have outgrown that stuff by that age.

I think this is very sweet but the best idea is adding a note with a memory of their dad in periodically. It’s hard to establish a relationship but I think it’s sweet you are trying.

Too young for a 12 year old.
