Hi.
Our grand-nephew lives in CA with his parents. His dad is DH's nephew. We met nephew a couple of times. Never have seen him for 20 years. They have 2 children. The girl just turned 10, likes art and ballet. Those cards are easier. Ballerina, butterfly popups. The kind that are about $10 at Amazon. The boy is harder. He likes soccer and basketball, at least that's what last year's holiday note said. I got him a popup soccer card in 2023 and basketball in 2024. Again the $10 kind. The parents specifically do not want monetary gifts. Suggestions with links if possible would be appreciated. We don't have children. These are our only younger relatives. I would like to keep a connection albeit tenuous. Thanks. |
| Weird singing and dancing donkeys or hamsters or dogs. Or fart jokes. |
How thoughtful. Do you know their sizes? I'd get addidas, nike, UA clothing for the boy, maybe a new soccer ball or basket ball? Or, bags for the sports gear. What kind of art does the girl like? |
| I don't think the kids care too much about the card TBH. A new basketball or a new jersey might be appropriate. |

Not for a 12 year old. |
| So sweet of you! |

What about getting him a book on the WNBA, hmmm?
Why not?? |
No |
I don’t see you suggesting anything whore. |
What is wrong with you. I suggested stuff. No 12 year old wants that. |

OK kids...
How about these? https://www.trustpilot.com/review/lovepopcards.com https://www.lovepop.com/products/birthday-cod-pop-up-card?variant=41000144044105 https://www.lovepop.com/products/bigfoot-legendary-birthday-pop-up-card Maybe those are a bit "old" but they are novel. I put in the Trustpilot review to show the company seems real. From reviews it seems like it might be worth buying a few cards at a time to save shipping. It takes a while, but I think eventually one does appreciate older relatives for making an effort. Steady contact is the trick. My great-grandma would usually send me $10 but once she sent me a feather with a little note and it really touched me. I rarely saw her but I knew she wanted to make a connection. I still have it. Another great-aunt was a watercolor hobbyist. She would send bookmarks with her art on it. I would suggest that at some point you write each kid a letter with some memories (maybe of their dad) that tell them something about you and the family. Then they might remember more about you. |
They are cute but my kids will open a card and look at it for a minute and that's it. If in doubt, send an amazon gift card as they can get almost anything or buy other gift cards. For the 12 year old, I'd get some Nike/Adidas/UA clothing - hoodies especially (medium men's if he's not big, large if he is) or backpack/lunchbox or new soccer/basket balls. |

This company used to do a birthday bundle, not sure if they still do but these look good. If you call them they’d probably include a card or gift message. They’re small enough that they care and food is delicious!
